Magical deck gun

The 'spirited gunnery duel' event is pretty infamous, I tend not to worry about it too much but recently I had some enemy submarines sink corvettes in gun duels from the other side of the world.
I had a quick scroll through the .bcs file and it seems to confirm that all hostile subs were in European waters and not in the Pacific. If it matters, I think both of the ships sunk were on AF not TP as I hadn't yet had time to sort out trade protection but I can't be completely certain.
