I find it amusing that it describes the Pueblo as an 'Environmental Research Ship'.

Yes, it's kept "in commission" as a protest to North Korea, which still holds the vessel.

But come on, everyone now acknowledges that it was a spy ship with a lot of sensitive equipment on board. It doesn't excuse the DPRK, as the vessel was definitely in international waters, but the labelling of the ship is amusingly wrong.

The Hull Classification Code AGER is Environmental Research Ship so that is the official US Navy designation. Everyone knows that Environmental Research Ship or Technical Research Ship or something similar are official euphemisms for US Navy intelligence gathering ships.

However, ship hull codes have been changed in the past (like with the now former DLG), and the appropriate designation for Pueblo is really AGI

After all, there are genuine scientific research ships out there.

The U.S. Navy never has used AGI for its own ships they historically have always used another classification to hide the true mission. Even the legit scientific ships do spook work as well.
