russia surrendering

So I occupied Moscow and was one hex away from St. Petersburg when Russia surrendered. And instantly, my troops are back in Poland, and the stupidest "what happens after Russia surrenders" unfolded. I got zero benefit from beating Russia. I was not allowed to just conquer her. I couldn't keep the land my troops were standing in. Rumania had surrendered, yet somehow Rumania gets a BENEFIT from Russia surrendering? None of that ending made sense and to be blunt, it was insulting. I love the Strategic Command series, own all of them (some on Steam, some on GoG, some directly). But Russia surrendering because its moral hits zero -- that ending is infuriating and I just quit each time. It's ridiculous.
Like a Germany that had conquered all the way to Moscow and right up to St Pete's would just withdraw with nothing to show for it.

This has been something of a common refrain since the game was released. No CP player seems too pleased with how Russia exits the war.

tried to send you the save file but my email program wouldn't let me, file too large. I tried again, got Moscow, and had troops physically against the Petrograd hex -- and viola, all that erased as Russia surrenders and I get zip for it except a small part of Poland. Can't re-conquer it either, they've "signed an armistice". So all your efforts are just erased, you gain nothing of value, and you can't re-take what was taken from you when Russia surrendered. Not a fan of this ending and won't be playing this title again while the German player is denied anything for his efforts. At least in WW2 I can say no to France surrendering and go on to Algeria to conquer her. Here it's forced on you, and you lose all that you had fought for, with not even money as a reward.

Ok, now this is ridiculous. I conquered Petrograd and Moscow simultaneously (same turn). Russia surrendered. I sat there waiting for my reward. It said, and I quote, "Russia plunders 2650". Then "entente liberates Russia". And proceeded to setup the same map that Russia surrendering without me taking those cities did.
Um...
No. The damned country was conquered fully. All capitals occupied. No allies anywhere near it. I should have gotten the plunder and it should have stayed conquered. if all you can achieve is the same League of Nations map after Russia falls, what's the point?
I have not been so disappointed with any Strategic Command product as I am now. This is a ridiculous outcome.

Does anyone know, is Russia's surrender moddable? It's ridiculous that whatever you do, Germany benefits not at all from conquering Russia. is there a way to alter it so Russia surrenders like everyone else -- you get a harvest of points and retain the country?
(I say not at all -- that's if you drive Russia into surrendering without letting Lenin through; I've no idea about the outcomes there, I refuse to mess with socialism spreading when you let Lenin in).

How is it I'm finding people in forums talking about taking Russia's capitals and actually getting the cash harvest and retaining the country on its surrender? I've re-installed the game now several times (GoG version) and the ending remains -- Russia surrenders, capitals taken, somehow "russia gets 2500+", "entente liberates Russia' instantly even though there's no allied units anywhere nearby. How are people actually getting a russian surrender that actually gives you something for it? I can't make that happen, capturing capitals simultaneously or not.

I think you have to capture both Petrograd and Moscow
before Russia hits 1% National Morale. If Russian NM reaches 1% then it will surrender without giving you any plunder (a situation described in the Game Manual).
Looking at the Editor, it seems that the Russian Surrender script - which fires when Russian NM reaches 1% - has the same effects as the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk script. I will let the devs explain why that is.
But I know it is possible for the Central Powers to capture 2500 MPPs in plunder and control all the territory of Russia by taking its capitals, as I have done it once myself. Lenin is only a pre-requisite to trigger to Bolshevik Revolution, which in turn is a pre-requisite for the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk.

Yes I saw that too once, but its hard to get the plunder most of the time since Russia's NM usually collapses to 0 before the capitals are taken. There are 2 threads here (2020) about this Russia situation when the CP decides to actually conquer Russia instead of fomenting the Revolution.
Somewhere not in those 2 threads was the explanation that if Russia succumbed and surrenders due to either NM loss or out-right being conquered, that the Kaiser would not want Imperial Russia to breakup and the loss of the Czar or his regime. For one thing the Czar was a relative. Secondly, politically, they were aligned. Conservative Monarchies with an adverse opinion of Democracy, which the Western Entente represents.
The intent was to drive Russia out of the War period...get the plunder if lucky, and concentrate everything on the Western Entente. Hence the very reason to go the conquer route, and not choose to send Lenin to Russia. If the latter route is taken, well Russia collapses and a bunch of new states rise on the edges like Ukraine and TranCaucasia Republic etc. Bolshevism can spread and demoralize CP units. Also garrisons are needed around Warsaw...a bunch, to keep NM from dropping and the Ukrainian bread moving.
I personally think the conquer strategy is fine (as it's designed currently), even if the plunder is not gained because Russia surrenders. Its a chance you take. Again, the whole point to take this strategy is to cause Russia to leave the War, period, so that the Central Powers can move their whole might against the West with the East secure.
I think Willy would be content with keeping cousin Nicky chastised and quiescent and on his throne.

There are two options with large files that need to be sent:
1) zip it up using a programme like:

2) send it to me via WeTransfer:

I solved my problem by going into the editor and adding to Russia' starting morale. Problem solved. Now they don't collapse because of morale the moment I take both capitals and it processses properly, no more "Russia gains money from Russia surrendering" nonsense.
