A change from OB 2.0 is Soviet mountain divisions can no no longer become guards. I am posting this just because I am not sure if it is intended, because there are still Guards Mountain divisions in various scenarios and other campaigns like Stalingrad to Berlin. But it is impossible to have Guards Mountain divisions in the Grand Campaign.

On the other hand, Soviets can have something like this as early as turn 4-5 of a Grand Campaign. Not quite as good as a Rifle Corps, but not bad either considering it comes a year or 2 earlier. The reason this is possible is because you can now attach SUs to mountain divisions, which you could not do before:





Anyway FYI in case any of this is not actually intended.

Just a quick little comparison for the sake of it, this is a Soviet unit at the start of turn 1 of the Stalingrad to Berlin scenario:





And yes, it can become stronger if we attached SUs to it. But without SUs at least it is not that much stronger than the Soviet 1941 mountaineer (with AT brigade)

6 more CV, a 4,568 more men, 158 more guns, 12 lower morale in comparison to the 1941 Soviet Mountaineer with AT brigade.

They certainly could become guards, I’ve had them in the game.

Unfortunately it was around the time 2.0 came along, so don’t say whether it was before or after update

After 2.0 they cannot become guards, it is a 2.0 change in the data so it doesn't get updated when you patch.



ALSO Bread discovered that mountain divisions can now be used to form Guards rifle corps. So what seems to have happened is that probably mountain divisions were accidentally re-coded as being regular infantry units instead, which is also probably why they can now have SUs attached like ordinary rifle divisions can.

There were multiple changed to OB2 after the initial release, in data nothing points toward a relation of mountain rifle divs with Guards Rifle Corps. If thats still possible with the latest game version its likely an .exe bug

Needs a replication with most current game version and newly started game. Maybe StoB or GC43. They should then be able to form standard Rifle corps too.
Was this a MRD using the special MRD OB or was it mountain by name only, using standard RD OB ?
In data the mountain rifle divs are completely separate from standard rifle divs
