Winter Substitute AA For Tanks

I am considering moving my panzer units off map for the 41 winter (I am playing axis) as they tend to just completely breakdown and to help with anti-tank capability, I was going to attach AA units that contain 88s to key infantry divisions. However, I vaguely recall a posting awhile back that says that the AA guns do not engage in ground combat or are minimally effective. Is this correct? Will attaching the AA support units be pointless.
I did search for this old post but could not find anything.

The 88s were nerfed pretty much into oblivion.
Earlier they were good, it was a consolidated German tactic to 'lure' the enemy on the 88s which could be used both as anti tank and anti infantry weapons (unless one think the default AA allocation is armour piercing ammos, and not frag, to hit planes in the sky.)
But they were pulling high numbers here - eventually too high.
They were revised a first time - but apparently it was not enough and then they go worked down a 2nd time (which I believe it was over the top).

Remember you cant assign those LW units to Divisions. Have to sit in the HQ eating up supplies. Better off in a TB somewhere.

excellent point I forgot about that. I did go back and check a battle that happened last turn. Russian attack with infantry against one of my German regiments. The corps HQ assigned a mixed flak to the battle and the 88s in that unit had the best results out of all the weapons. So, they are engaging. I hate them eating up supplies so I may leave all light flak in the reserves for the winter but i think it may be worth having the mixed and heavier flak around as I will try to minimize the use of my tank units (if not send them to reserve).
