Hey folks. I just picked up AE and have been trying to get it to work on my Mac laptop. I've figured out a 'fun' way of doing it by streaming from my PC to my Mac via Steam.

(Yeah, I can hear the cries of horror already).

I added the non steam game to steam by pointing to the .exe file, and from there I can also add the flags, such as -dd_sw, -archive and so on. I have upgraded the game to 1.8.11.27.2 Jul 31 2022.

Interesting problem is that if I use -dd_sw to get rid of the pink text, steam will not display the game on my laptop. I figured out that if I switch to window mode using -wd flag it will work, but not full screen.

So I can get the game working, streaming from the PC to my macbook no problem. However, I can't get the game to scroll the map by moving the pointer to the screen edges. This isn't an issue with my Mac, because if I do this with the game sitting at my PC it does not scroll either in a window, but will in full screen.

Any idea how to get window mode to scroll the map?

Did you try using Seabee to install the game switches? If not, check the readme.txt file and make sure that you use the dash "-" symbol on the keyboard and not the minus "-" symbol on a numeric keypad if you have one. Or just copy and paste which ones that you want to try. But also make sure that there is no space between words and if a letter is capitalized in the readme file that you have it capitalized on your switch.

Also, check your resolution and use the pwx and pwy for set the screen size if needed.

You might also want to use the .1126 version and not the 1127 version which is still being tested, a new update is due next year . . .

Nope, I'm an 'old fart' so I do things by hand. I've played around with pxf and pyf a bit, though its a bit funky sometimes.

I've also done both 1126, and just upgraded to 1127 within the past hour in case there was a edge fix installed.

Try using the pxf and pyf with a native resolution for your monitor.

Nope, that didn't work either, though it did successfully fill my screen and not have black borders when I was in game.

I can still move the map with the arrow keys so it's a minor gripe at best.

If any other crazy bastard wants to stream to a mac via steam, the steps are this:

1: Install the game, patches and beta patch on your windows box.
2: In steam, go to the top where it says games/add a non-steam game to my library
3: Navigate to c:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition.exe and choose that binary.
4: In your steam library, Right click the new entry for AE and then select properties.
5: In target, scroll to the end of the section in quotes that ends in .exe" and edit the flags.
6: This is what worked for me: -altFont -cpu3 -multiaudio -skipVideo -fixedArt -archive -deepColor -wd -dd_sw -pxf1512 -pyx982

Those last two entries are my laptops native resolution. Yours may vary.

I don't understand why a person just doesn't want to just use their PC to play the game unless they are somehow showing the combat turn to other people.

Also, it appears from what you wrote about a "crazy bastard" someone is a mentally ill individual whose parents were not married when that individual was born nor at conception or even any time in between.

Because why sit at my PC in my office playing the game when I can be sitting downstairs on my couch with my laptop on my belly and a can of beer in my hand watching the Jets blow it yet again while playing the game?

So you won't have to watch the Jets? Well, I lay on my bed with my computer on my chest because my good chair is broken, I will still drink beer there, and I have two cats to enjoy my company there.
