Im very interested in buying the game.

As Im a relative newbie at hex style games will I be well out of my depth?

How immersive is it?

Does it have any atmosphere as Ive played other similar games which seem to lack it.

Do you get the feeling of real men out their fighting or is it more like a far more in depth chess game?

Not many people have the game yet save the BTs and the developers, and I don't know if you will a very objective answer from them.

I am a newbie as well so when I get it tomorrow I will be able to answer your questions from a newbs perspective.

Im not going to answer your question, as I have been one of the testers.. so I will leave this to someone else to answer.

What I will say is this though - the excitement of this game is 100 fold when you are playing a PBEM game...

1) If you played board war games you will love this.
or
2) You are a serious wargamer, and have every SSI - Grigsby type game, and old SSG games, you will love this
or
3) You like military history, and like to look at what if situations, and have a comfort level with computers you will love this.

But if you like, as you said only "feel" type games (shooters?), this may not be for you.

I love the CC games and like CMBB.

What I meant is like in the CC games do you sort of get attached to specific units. Hopeing to keep casualties down as they have fought well so far etc etc things like this. Or take pride in a particular unit and feel the loss of it if you get my meaning.



I have played a few board wargames games in my time and have a very keen interest in military history.

Game slike CA and CL are definatley my cup of tea! Its just that hex games as the use counters sometimes I just cant relate to it being a division of men and its just a counter. I played strategic command and it left me feeling a little cold.

From the screenchots of KP Ive seen it does seem to ooze an atmosphere and I feel this could be the one for me.

Also sound effects help create an atmoshere to which prob is even more important in this type of game.

Dont get me wrong strategy games are my bag and shooters well there fun for a short while but until someone makes one with a real tactic and strategic bent then I prob wont be buying any.

Saying all this though imagination is a great aid in this type of game (hex) and as I belive I have a little bit then I prob dont know why Im going on and on.

We sound to have similar tastes in war games. I'm a huge Combat Mission fan, play it all the time actually.
But, I was looking for something on a larger more operational scale, so I bought Korsun.
I really like games with atmosphere that will draw you in to the game, perhaps with a bit of role-play with your troops and such.
Makes the game more fun, I think.
Well, to be honest, I'm not sure yet about Korsun. I have just started the tutorials and so far it's kept my interest.
Sound and music are huge for me too, being as I am involved in them as a career and hobby.
Korsun, is a little lacking in that department. For one, the music doesn't work, confirmed bug. Some of the SFX are weak, sorry but they are and I will be replacing them with a couple sounds I'm currently using in CM.
Overall, I just have to play more and see if the game draws me in or if it turns out to just be an exercise in numbers.
I hope I end up really liking the game as I am dying for an operational level game with atmosphere!

I'll declare my bias straight off - I beta tested this game and think its very good.

It is not an exercise in numbers.

It is about operational planning and tactical flair.

Anyone who feels differently is welcome to challenge me to a game!

If you're not sure about buying this game try downloading TAO2.4 (its free and very good). Try playing PBEM against some of the players over at www.theblitz.org. If you don't like TAO2 at all then Korsun might not be for you. If you like it a bit then bear in mind Korsun is better. If you like it a lot then stop reading and start buying!

I would love to try TAO2 but Im running XP!

Another very interested party. Currently I play UV fanatically - it has more of a stratgic feel to it than (opinion) Korsun appears to have.
I bought TOAW and found it too pedantic. You needed to know all the nitty gritty details and there was a hell of alot of them.

I am a little hypocritical here as I love the detail, and I want it to be as accurate as possible, but I don't want to swear and curse at the game too much because i didn't know about rule 12.47.b

So what i want is it to be relatively easy to pick up but then have depth if you decide to take the lid off. Something I love about the way UV does things.

From reading Rob and Chris' excellent AARs it does appear to have a level of rule intuitiveness, with the inclusion of the rules in visual and easy to use wizards.

Being in New Zealand I wont be able to get the game (other than paying massive fedex inclusive international delivery prices) until sometime in the next year. In a way that is a benefit. I will be able to listen to the feelings of other newbies as they pick it up
