Ural River

Can someone explain to me the course of the Ural River on the map? Until the The Blazing World AAR, I had not paid any attention to the Ural. On the WiF map, it ends at the Caspian. Going upstream from there it heads north and then east, which is fine. The last few hexes, though, it goes south, right where it should be going north. In the real world, the Ural flows through Magnitogorsk! Instead, in WiF it heads away from the place.
Confusedly yours.

My guess here is that there simply were to many rivers in the Ural/Magnitorsk area. So they removed the last stretch of the Ural river where it turns north. And that they added the contributory Or as a last part of Ural.
However, I think they should have put the river name Or on the last part where it turned southwards.

I was somewhat involved in changing the Swedish terrain, and rail network. I remember that I had a discussion about the Swedish rivers as well. And maybe I did change a bit on how they are drawn on the map. Regarding the rivers they didn't want to many of them. and that it should correspond fairly well to the old different scale maps.
For example, I got added the railway stump that ends in Mora, Sweden. In real life Mora is located next to the Dal river, but in MWIF it is not. This, I suppose, because the Dal river splits into several branches, as does all (?) rivers, and in MWIF they had selected a more southern branch to put on the map- Although for me, the main branch of the Dal river flows by Mora. This still annoys me every time I look at Sweden in MWIF.
To further explore the river difference between real maps and MWIF I have the following list of rivers in Sweden listed by average water flow in the river. There are 8 rivers in MWIF in Sweden. And on the list below there are the 12 largest in Sweden. One would think that MWIF would have 1-8 then. Nope. Nr 1 is missing, and so is nr 3. And both 11 and 12 is included in MWIF.
With that said I would have been miffed if nr 12 Norrström had not been included. That is the river passing by Stockholm. Although I would not call it a river.
Enough ramblings. I got far from the Ural river.
