I have played this game on and off for over 10 years. Without a doubt it is my favorite wargame. This game I finished last evening was the toughest I have played and came very close to only the second game that the AI beat me. As in the that one lost to the AI, I had a very long border that included fronts with all three AI. I played with the Delayed War option enabled, but by the 4 or 5th turn all three AI were at war with me. That is a lot of combat power to withstand as one tries to solidify a defense. The AI were pushing hard and achieving breakthroughs. I was forced to trade land (retreat) in order to buy time to erect a defense that would hold and eventually have the power to go on the offensive. After seven long brutal years (May 1930 - Sep 1937) I achieved victory. The AI used land forces, air and sea. They were pounding me hard with artillery, causing the highest losses I have ever suffered. There were numerous naval 'invasions' but nothing serious. It did force me to guard vital coastal roads and cities.

In this game I was playing the French with German, Japan, and China. Delayed war option was in effect and lasted for 4 or 5 turns as I recall. Japan declared war on me, but they were ill prepared, and I quickly got the jump on them. It took time, of course, but I eventually fully defeated them. Along the way the German declared war on China. I kept an eye on the German-China war and the German was winning. It seemed China would collapse in the near further, so I decided to declare war on the German. Japan was basically out of the way, and I did not want the German to conquer all of China. I had built up my forces along the border with the German so wasn't overly concerned about their combat capabilities. It was a slow slugfest as I pushed against their built-up forces. My attack on the German reduced the pressure on China which began to take some of their territory back. At the end, the German only had two cities left and had lost their capital.
