"You can even divide your squad with a friend and play cooperatively against the computer. I did this through the savannah campaign with a nephew. It was a lot of fun."

I did not want to hijack the post, so I will start this one.

Could someone tell me about this option? How can it be done? Could I play co-op with my friend online through the campaigns then? How does it work, do we assign half the funds to each other, or does one person set things up, then the titans are divided in the match?

This could be a tasty way to play. Please tell me.

We played on one computer and created a new squad. We named the individual jocks/pilots after ourselves. When playing through the campaign we just talked strategy and did our own moves for our individual titans.
Good for someone with only one computer and more than 0 friends. Also game cleanup is a breeze.

Okay. So is that to say that there is no co-op option? It sounds like you just played a standard game and descided, "I control this guy, and you control that one."

Is there a way to play co-op in a multiplayer environment? If not in the campaign, could one at least have teams vs the AI in single matches?

Hotseat multiplayer coop on random maps is possible. Each player can lead his own squad.

Network multiplayer coop against the AI on random maps is possible with a trick. You can launch multiple instances of the game and connect to ip 127.0.0.1, the loopback device.

There is the possibility to add local AI teams on the host computer in network games but their actions are visible to the host.

Campaigns are only single squad non network games but you can share a squad and play it in a hotseat like fashion.

I played 50+ battles with a friend where we did share a squad, 4 units each on one computer. This was great fun as we had a common goal but unique strategies.

Also whoever owns the computer can send the other guy out for drinks as a rule.

By multiplayer environment, I meant across the internet from several (U.S.) states away. I have a buddy that I game with online and we each buy a copy and play games using voice chat online. I was wondering if this would work for that.

You can play cooperatively in multiplayer maps and random maps against either AI or human opponents. This is not supported currently in the solitary game. Network games is the option you want.
