Late game performance problem even at 300 stars and colony prevalence very rare

I colonized all planets with the settings in the topic title. Now I have 409 colonies.
The setting colony prevalence (rare and very rare) should generate less colonizable planets. (More metal, sulphur and gas etc.). This would help late game performance. And I think colony prevalence should always generate more uncolonizable planets than now, also with normal, abudant and very abudant.
Now the colony prevalence can only slow down game start and middle game, but has no effect on late game.

I think you might misunderstood the setting, like I did at the beginning. Colony prevalence doesn't spawn less colonizable planet types. It spawns less planets with quality in the range that is acceptable to colonize.
The relative amount of any planet type among all planets in your galaxy will always be the same no matter what settings you choose.
The AI feels very comfortable in colonizing bad quality planets though, just so it can expand its range and borders. This can create issues when conquering said planets.

I missunderstood the setting till I colonized the 409 planets. The intention of my last post was to describe this problem and how colony prevalence has to to work (should) and what would be the benefit (late game performance).
And the tooltip of colony prevalence is also easy to missunderstood "... determing the number of potential colonies ...".
Less colonies = less money = less bases and ships.

If you actually reduced the number of planet types being generated, that would create other issues, namely lack of certain resources, which the AI might not be able to cope with. I agree it might be better to work differently, but applying this fix would require a lot of other fixes.
Unless I am misunderstanding your proposal?

By the time you colonized 400 worlds the game is practically over... are there really any challenges left to fight other than autonomously claw yourself to the victory threshold using tedium. I would just start a new game and make the initial scenario more difficult at that point.
I never really saw the major issue of the number of worlds I can colonize as an issue thus far to be honest as I quit the game once all the main obstacles have been passed. You also can just lower the threshold of the victory conditions if this is the issue you are having so you don't have to play that far into the game to reach the victory threshold.

But this is the main performance problem in late game. Big empires have nearly unlimited cash.

Agreed. I would prefer fewer, higher quality colonisable worlds. Most worlds aren't worth colonising for any race, these should be a non-habitable variant.
I'd like the colonisation and quality settings looked at. Often there are zero viable colonies for my original race, while other races in the empire have dozens of marginal and affluent colonies.

For higher quality are colonization techs. And every race has in your empire has his own suitability for a planet.
I play now always with colony prevalence very abundant. To have only strong empires because every empire can colonize many planets.

It seems you've misunderstood my post.
I meant that the Mortalen have multiple potential colonies with suitability over 20. The Ugnari and Wekkarus have a couple. The Humans have none. This is on 300 stars, colony prevalence default (I think it's normal?).
Yes, I am fully aware that I can research quality colonisation techs, but it doesn't seem right that consistently, the only way to expand the empire via colonisation is to research techs for certain races, while other races have several colonies to choose from.
There should be fewer habitable planets and they should be better quality.

You missunderstood me.
There should be fewer colonizable planets. The quality has in my opinion not to be changed.
Tips:
- Migration treaty helps you amongst research to colonize more suitable planets.
- Set colony prevalence to abudant.

We would appreciate your last save file from this game. I have not seen performance issues in such a small galaxy, though theoretically if you play long enough without victory conditions It's possible for the galaxy to build up to the point where performance can be affected.
Which version was this with? 1.1.8.1 had some performance regressions. The latest 1.2.0.5 "Stellar" update fixes those and has further improvements to performance. We've been continuing performance work with each update and that will be a part of all our future update work.

Try to double click the strongest invasion fleet to focus and zoom to it. With my system it takes many times double click till it works. How is the performance on your system? It's a 1.2.0.5 beta savegame + xl mod.
Federation-Human-5706-12-02_for_tests.7z
I changed all ship desgins to not use fighters and bombers.
And you can test other things with this savegame, have a look at:
- what the invasion fleets do and how long the do their missions
- not really deleted empire (but not in game editor anymore, if it still were there I could delete the empire by myself)
- not really deleted pirates (selected stay dead)
I think you programmed somethings like not to delete empires cause of future features like shakturi.

Steam Workshop mod xl - beta now changes the overall colony prevalence.

But after researched all colonization techs there are still to much colonizable planets.
