Detailed description of equipment properties?

Is there some explanation on what in-game effects the various properties of certain equipment have?

Like theres this AEW aircraft with the PS-890 radar that has the following capabilities:

I am anything but a military expert thus have zero idea what each of those capabilities do. I mean i could google for example what "track while scan" means but I highly doubt that the information found on the web could be directly translated to the actual in-game impact of this capability of the given equipment.

:?

I just did a search on each of those four properties in the manual and it gave a fairly good description. Wiki give s lot more detail, but it seems like the manual gets to the point.

Thanks for the answer the wood!

I have also checked the manual and I think there are tons of capabilities/functions of the various systems that are not even hinted about in the manual.

The sole reason that I have a vague idea of what they might do is thanks to P Gatcomb's excellent tutorials.

Lets take the "moving target indicator MTI" for example. It is among other things not included in the manual.

To quote the wiki:

"Moving target indication (MTI) is a mode of operation of a radar to discriminate a target against the clutter.[1] It describes a variety of techniques used for finding moving objects, like an aircraft, and filter out unmoving ones, like hills or trees."

Neat! But how on earth does it translate to the actual in-game effect of the system?? I could give you dozens of examples from the top of my head where reading the corresponding wiki article offers me no help to get a clue of what can I can expect from the given system if I use it CMO.

Heye there SchDerGrosse,

yeah, the "game" simulates so many systems that it's tough for a single person, or even an organization, to know it all.
Pretty much as in actual life I guess.

I assume it would take the DB team and a couple of developers a good part of a year to document everything precisely.

Until to holy day, they get so filthy rich they can afford to just do that, it's on to us, the (commercial) community to dig and figure it out. Much like wargamers and military buffs do.

At times it is frustrating, at least for me, but most of the time it's just an opportunity to find out how best to use that yet another tool to do the job. And I'm having a blast doing just that. Not least because we have an editor where we can just isolate that particular system and figure out how to play it right. Now, I also sometimes just go with the flow and learn on the job.

To me, it's all part of the fun this game delivers.

Cheers

As I understand not every DB entry is reflected in code, at least not yet. I've read this a couple of times in the forum, but I can't remember a certain issue.
The MTI possibly is a case of that kind, I could imagine it's just an enriching detail to justify (on DB-level) why a plane has better OODA cycle or not.

Correct. As of the latest version of the professional DB manual (which commercial players don't have access to, so no sweat for not catching it) the MTI feature is not currently modeled in-sim.

I will see if I can release some of the relevant pages (e.g. about sensor codes, etc.) for you guys.

Here are the relevant pages from the pro DB manual about all the different sensor codes and what they do.

I've also asked about releasing the entire manual, or at least parts that would be useful to commercial players, so that may come down the line.

Is your job still safe after pulling that one out? :?

:) ;)

Thanks a lot, dear Pygmalion.

Is that playlist still representative of what you guys are working with: CPE : Database Edition Playslist - YouTube ?

As it can guide one in formulating smooth requests.
