I guess we do need a new sticky forum entry for exchanging titans. Same as the map room.

Maybe a general exchange room, for maps, titans, mods, ...
The Black Market, or Resources, or something to that effect.

Ross is setting up something a bit nicer to make things easier for everyone. We have both brain cells firing.

Here are the things you can trade in TOSWS.

1- Titans
2- Maps
3- Squads [mostly for network games or tournament]

Good call! A general resources area for sound and graphics mods or basically anything else that doesn't fit into the other categories might be helpful too.

Generally when someone makes a mod they like to put up their own site to showcase it.

Also it helps us avoid unpleasant situations like giving people untested programs, graphics, audio, etc,. . .that could harm TOSWS. Most mods are just fine and play great. Its the one or two that cross the line of good taste or have major bugs that might be created I'd like to avoid. Giving any of these away in what may appear to be an official site would be bad for Vicious Byte and Matrix Games.

Hm, that's an understandable stance, rosary; but still more than a little perplexing to me.

I would think that the publishers/developers would want fan mods of any variety to be a highly visible aspect of their product on the forums. If not, then I fully respect that decision, but would strongly question the wisdom in it nevertheless. Maybe I've just spent one too many years at the Shrapnel forums and the accessibility of mods over there has spoiled me rotten. ;)

The Space Empires and TWE communities over at Shrapnel are just a couple of prime examples of what a forum atmosphere that actively encourages and even promotes fan modding can accomplish, both for the publisher and the developer. Aaron Hall figured out that regardless of how good a game's stock graphics or gameplay or sound is, strategy gamers just love to tweak stuff and play with stuff that's been tweaked. It's in our genes. :D

Besides, it's not like anyone is going to be fiddling around with code or anything nutty like that. New UI skins, yes. New terrain features, new titan graphics, new sound effects, yes yes yes! I can't see the harm in having someplace to upload little goodies like that where they're easily accessible and highly visible to curious potential customers. Quite the opposite, actually!

But it's way too early to be talking about mods anyway, as the stock stuff is plenty awesome as it is. Never hurts to plan ahead, though. ;)

I would be very supportive of a mod page that provided hyperlinks to these sites. I would even like to see a review section where they could be discussed with easy accessibility. I just don't want to be responsible for whatever crawls down the net.

Each and every subission in modding/improving TOS:WS is welcomed. Grafics/maps/titans/sounds, its all fine. Nevertheless we at Vicious Byte/Matrixgames will tell you wether it is approved or not. Any data not approved is at your own risk and we won't take any responsibiltiy if it causes any malfunction/crash. You will notice any official improvement, yet there is none.

Yes, That is what I meant to write. Do whatever you want. But at your own risk.

Fair enough! :)

I have every intention of dragging some of my SE buddies into the realm of ToS. By their scrawny little necks, if I have to.

Don't worry, all of my .pcx and .bmp files will be rigorously tested by an elite team of bald hamsters prior to public release. :D
