Unit Placement Variation on DOW for Minors

Hi Bill,

I see under Advanced options in the Campaign settings that this is a box that can be checked. I have seen how this works in practice in SC War in Europe for Belgium and the Netherlands, but I have not experimented with using it in SC WW1. If you tick this box, does it apply to all minors? And how is the variable placement of minor units determined by the game engine?

As I see it, the main benefit of this feature for the player who controls the minor is that it makes it harder for the enemy to plan a pre-emptive DOW which could force the minor into surrender after one or two turns. The down-side, however, for a geographically large minor - like Sweden or Romania - is that the game engine could generate some very disadvantageous placements. Can you explain how it works?

Cheers,

Michael

Hi Michael

Yes, it will work for all Minors, and it will vary their positioning slightly, with the advantage as you say, of making a pre-planned strike against the country slightly harder to always get right.

Perhaps try it out in Hotseat mode and see if it works well enough for all relevant countries to be used in your campaign?

Hi Bill - I tried checking that box under the Advanced options on the Campaign menu. But I did not see any variations when I tested it using hot-seat mode. Is there some other feature that I need to include per minor country in order to operationalize the variable placemenent of their units?

The way it works is there would be a 1 hex variation from their original placement position within the Editor, with the exception that if the unit is originally located within a resource, they would not be moved around, unless that resource is a mine or oil resource.

Hope this helps!

Hi Hubert - that does help and it also makes sense. Minor units continue to defend urban resources but forward units can vary their starting positions by one hex.

Cheers,

Michael
