How are Moscow's manpower, production and railyard assets affected by having an enemy unit adjacent to Moscow?

Moscow is a National supply centre, firstly by encircling it stops any supply from another supply source renders it broken.

Also having a unit right next to it is the nail in the coffin so to speak as it stops the garrison troops breaking out, there is few more things of benefit having unit next to Moscow, I cant remember off the top my head just seen your post and did quick reply, would have delve into the manual.

Even if you don't encircle the city but have unit there its game over for Moscow, however you move said unit away and Muscovite's will pour out of the city, better go for the double kill " encirclement and adjacent unit ".

I'm certain someone with better knowledge will give you finer details far better than I.

Whenever I strike at Moscow first priority is to get someone adjacent then of course encirclement push as far east as i can, don't want Konev or Zhukov counterattacking and breaking through.
Also the Suburbs become redundant like the capital so no need to worry about them.

cheers

Regarding resources, it depends where the unit is. A hex is cut off from the rail network if it borders an enemy unit. Iirc, factories and depots function when they are on the first hex to be cut off.

Regarding the NSS, having a unit next to it temporarily reduces the amount of freight it produces and can hold to 50k. Encircling it temporarily turns it off, I believe isolation is not required, just hitting the rail line is sufficient. In order to destroy the NSS, the hex must be taken.
