Hi Guys

Game Zone just released a review of Titans of Steel Warring Suns (PC version) was added to www.GameZone.com with a 8.6 overall score. Please check out the review using this link (http://www.gamezone.com/gzreviews/r22507.htm) and let us know what you think.

He is a quote from the review:

"Matrix did a great job in taking a board game style and incorporating it into a 3-D presentation. The building of your squad and Titans is a blast, and adds to the addictive quality and replay value of the game." - Tha Wiz, GameZone.com

WoW! That's competitive with the "mainstream" Age of Empires and the like! And equals the GZ score for Combat Mission: B-to-B!!!

And (dare I say) beats Uncommon Valor (by 0.1...)!!

:D  :D

OMG!
Why do i have to live in Louisiana? Where I must wait until THURSDAY to get my copy?
BLAH!!!!!

That's an awesome reveiw btw. A simple testament to the awesome effort by all those in Matrix Games, and especially our old friends at VB. I've been sidelining the progress of this game for quite some time. I can't tell you how great it feels to even have contributed my small part in 1.4 and the like, and then see it as it is now. I am awed by how that little freeware game that was so addictive in it's infancy, and now so amazing in it's fruition. I remember waiting expectantly for Larkin to release 1.3, 1.4, and the many in between :). I hope to live to see the next generation of ToS. I cannot wait for what VB and Matrix may do in the future.

Pity the guy didn't get the MIA thing. If he had asked here in the forum... ;)

Great review. Nicely balanced, informative, and objective. Hopefully the first of many.

But could someone please explain to me what the "wilderness survival" skill is good for? Maybe it's to help avoid the whole MIA thing? :D

Yes, Void, from another thread, survival should aid your pilot's ejection chances to keep your squad member's alive.

Wilderness survival is not one of the skills in TOSWS. However, Survival is a skill. Here is what it does.

When getting shot and hit it reduces 'Shock damage' to the pilot.
When ejecting from your Titan you have a better chance of not getting hurt.

Its not so much to avoid the MIA thing as it is to avoid the DEAD thing.

The guy was a little confused there in some of his thoughts, but it was a good review. The wilderness survival was one of them.
Survival is also a must if you want to self-destruct.
About the MIA thing, he probably just quit the game before it was really over, and his squad was left on the battlefield.

Hehe. I was just being being silly. When I read "wilderness survival" I got this mental image of a jock ejecting from his titan and getting lost in the woods on his way back home due to his low "wilderness survival" skill. Hence the MIA status.

Ok, so it was kinda lame... :D

My favourite part of this review:

Gameplay
Here is where the game truly shines. The UI takes some getting used to, but once you're there, you'll find that it's just as intuitive as it is innovative. No other TBS game out there plays like this one, and few are as addictive. I don't even know where to begin when trying to talk about things that make this game fun. It's like playing the BattleTech board game on your PC.

Smart guy. The UI has ALWAYS been one of the things that makes ToS so great. Never have I seen one so **** ... INTUITIVE. It takes getting used to, but once you do it's you begin to wonder why it's never been done before.
Straight up ToS is as groundbreaking as u can get with this genre.

Nice review and I concour...

However, I am someone who is new to TOS, not to computer games by any strech, and a veteran BTer...

The interface works well for TOS, and is good once you get over the learning curve.

But to call it **** INTUITIVE is just not true.

Just an FYI he is the definition for Intuition, the root for intuitive...

You can't say "once you get used to it", and intuitive in the same sentence.

Main Entry: in·tu·i·tion
Pronunciation: "in-tu-'wi-sh&n, -tyu-
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English intuycyon, from Late Latin intuition-, intuitio act of contemplating, from Latin intuEri to look at, contemplate, from in- + tuEri to look at
Date: 15th century
1 : quick and ready insight
2 a : immediate apprehension or cognition b : knowledge or conviction gained by intuition c : the power or faculty of attaining to direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference
- in·tu·i·tion·al /-'wish-n&l, -'wi-sh&-n&l/ adjective

I stick out my tongue at you, and call you vile names like geek and dweeb.
Then I giggle at the word titnas, like the low intelligence baboon you have proved me to be.
Muahahaha

That was a great time. I loved shelling out new updates as there was a dedicated crew of players which made it worth giving them the latest and greatest as soon as possible.

ToS in PC Gamer!

Finally!

I picked up the latest copy of PC Gamer today, specifically because I saw ToS in the table of contents mind you, but I picked it up, which is my point.

They give our favorite pastime 79% which is alright. Should have been 89% in my opinion, but apparently their wee reviewer can't figure out the interface. I admit it isn't intantly apparent, but certainly alot clearer than he gave it credit for (he should have visited us :)). That was his only real complaint though. Excellent review overall.

The reviewers need to realize it's not the interface they can't figure out.. it's the 'turn' system. Guess we have to cut them a little slack since the 'turn' system is, as far as I know, unique in the gaming world.

The interface is fairly simple and intuitive; the turn system can be a little hard to wrap your head around if your new. Maybe it needs it's own name... Voidhawk called it 'time-based stradegy' which is better then how I refer to it when I try to explain it to people.. I've called it 'micro-turns' where a turn is 1 sec, but every action takes from a few to many turns, but nothing happens in a single turn.

The problem with a lot of reviewers is (NO pun intended) that they need to be able to think out of the box sometimes. Now knowing the hard deadlines and stress they are on (no folks, reviewing a game is not hours of fun and simple gaming all day) I can´t blame anybody for that, and I would never do. I don´t want to swap my job with the one of a reviewer ;).

79% in PC Gamer is not bad at all, really not ;) I´m actually very very happy about this.
