Engage targets

I remember till reccently that if you select a target for manual engagement (With Shift & F1) your ordered aircraft (or group) started the engagement, regardless of distance to target. Now I see that this dosn't happen. The revised (v142) manual says on page 24 that "you must manually put your units in the correct firing parameters for weapons to fire". So is that the reason why an aircraft loaded for example with iron bombs doesn't engage a target which is far away? I think that this also happens with auto targetting(F1 key).

Look at what I'm saying, in case I wasn't clear in my previous post:
Strike#1 has just departed Blue Base and then with Shift & F1 is ordered to attack with one salvo of Mk82 the Target 1 and nothing happens. Is that WAD? If then I order to attack automatically with F1, its status changes to "Engaged offensive" for a fraction of second and suddenly reverts back to "Unassigned".

Regarding the manual weapon allocation, as said in the manual the unit must be in range in order to fire, if not, the order is cancelled so this is WAD.
Regarding the auto attack, yes, there's an issue that affects autoattack that it will be fixed in the next updated.

I don't think it's so simple issue to explain. When Strike # 1 approaches more (let's say at 10 nm far from target) the order for manual engagement works although is still out of range for dropping Mk82s.
Moreover the strike tutorial # 1 shows a message, as soon as Strike#2 takes off (and still being out of target range), which tells nothing about being in range in order to fire.Maybe the Strike tutorial needs an update.
