Question about sonar

I'm reading some nuke sub techno-thriller and I was wondering if in MNW we'll be able to tell apart subs from surface targets only by how they sound. Nuke subs from conventional ones, transients, etc. etc. Some sound specifics instead of generic noise.

There is no sound database in MNW like a mp3 for cargos , one for destroyers, ....
Each assets will have her own unique sound signature. MNW don't use generic sound, sound you hear is mixed in real-time according to the asset configuration like propulsion, generators, condensers, hull shape, .... and the type of SONAR that receive this it.
So you will be able to classify a contact to the type (civilian, military, surface, submarine, USV, UUV, torpedoes ...], class (cargo, tanker, frigates, destroyer, SSK, nuke, ...) and maybe to the penant number for those who have one.

I'm picturing myself spending lots of hours on sonar only, this is was I was looking for since Microprose's old Red Storm Rising
Take my money already, will you???

Technological developments may eventually enable for more nuanced discrimination of naval warships based on their acoustic characteristics.

Hey amanta!
Can you tell me more about this?
