Bombardment question?

Post by SuluSea »

Crazy question as long as I've played this game this is the first time it happened. Both Saipan and Tinian have been reconned by both land based and sea air and two different bombardment task forces have hit both Tinian and Saipan but for some reason this TF would not bombard. I figured I messed up the first night double checked, everything was okay....So set it for night two and the only thing happened was it moved one hex closer both days.

I'm guessing the TF commander's aggression is two low which was fine for the initial duty of escorting carriers but I figured I'd bombard on the way back from Marcus Island Operation.

Any thoughts on why the bombardment didn't take place? Thanks in advance!

Probably the leadership aggression plus possible routing control. Reset to absolute . . .

You also need to have good DL on the target ON THE NIGHT of the bombardment, which means Patrols/FPs reconning the island. And if the weather is really bad, the die roll will be biased toward the TF not seeing enough navigation points to start their bombardment. You could try sending in a lower-numbered DD Bombardment TF to try and find the soft spots (raise the DL) before the big guns arrive.

Very strange happenings.... Even when I set to return to Wake the TF only retreated 1 hex, luckily for me I only moved the carriers three hexes so the TF was still under the air umbrella. Only when I created a new TF from the same ships did it start responding to orders and move accordingly.

The tf has been at sea awhile and was the lead tf for the invasion of Marcus and had many tf following perhaps things just got wonky on the information side for the AI over time and I can only guess that something happened to the AI when I changed it from 'surface combat' to 'bombardment', wild stuff...

Thanks for your help RJ!

Thanks the DL was 9/10, I was sending two BB forces in on Saipan and one in on Tinian (9/10 , DL as well), everything went according to plan but my TF 9 highlighted wouldn't do anything but 1 hex movement to and from Saipan area.

All good, thanks for the assistance!

AH, the following TFs were acting as a ball and chain on that TF it was trying to both dash in and bring the followers with it! Bad Joss!

Nothing was following, no 'ordered' mistakes on my end. Things can and have been missed but like most of us, I'm a micro-manager and usually double check things. Previously, invasion, surface combat, bombardment, air combat and amphibious forces were following TF9 but at this time it was on its own on two successive nights for a bombardment run at 5 hexes from Saipan and moved 1 hex towards both nights and on the third day upon retreating moved one hex.

I can only guess collectively the information messed up the system once I changed the orders to bombardment from surface combat, once I created a new task force from the same ships did I regain control and it move accordingly.

Thanks

I have had it where the TF did not follow orders but making a new TF solved that problem.
