Matrix Games (http://www.matrixgames.com) is proud to announce the signing of a multi-game publishing deal with Simulations Canada. Matrix Games will be developing a line of computer wargame line based on many of Simulation Canada’s most popular designs.

With more than 65 titles to its credit, Simulations Canada has earned a proud reputation among both board and computer gamers. “We found these designs still to be just as amazing now as they were when they were first released,” says David Heath, Director of Operations for Matrix Games.

"We will release a line of moderate complexity computer wargames based on these proven Simulations Canada designs,” Heath adds. “This will allow both experienced gamers and beginners to enjoy challenging games. Development work has already been started on these new projects and we will make announcements on the new titles as work on them progresses.”

Stephen Newberg, President of Simulations Canada and an accomplished game designer, says he joined with Matrix Games because "Matrix seems to have shown it can go that extra mile for its customer base. It's something we both share.”

Never heard of Simulations Canada? Can you tell us about some of their products and how these relate to Matrix?

Simulations Canada was a major force in the Apple II and early PC game market with a host of very solid designs.

A partial list can be viewed at: http://users.erols.com/mrboone/clist_S.txt#SimCan

Covering everything from The Peloponnesian War to Modern Combat in Europe.

We have several new programming/graphic teams that have been stood up to rework these VERY SOLID game engines into moderate complexity games that will appeal to the hardcore, but will not intimidate the newcomer.

Those who have feared that computer wargames have taken the turn down the road to "monster games" with huge time demands should be happy to hear that those desiring less complicated, less time consuming games will soon have more options.

SimCan did very good work. They were at a level that was playable by many with getting too 'deep'. This should be a very good match for Matrix. Any idea of the titles you will look at first?

We will announce specific titles as they approach release, it depends on a number of issues and we may shift gears a few time in the process, so we don't want to "promise" a particular title yet.

We will look to filling out our offering of eras and try to avoid duplication with other projects (SO for instance the WW2 Pacific titles are low on the totem pole, and given recent events, modern stuff will likely be higher.)

Hey! Great idea! I'm all in favor of challenging games that can be played in a session or two (or three)! My vote is for an updated and all-computer version of Sim-Can's "Battles of the Atlantic." No one has yet done a computer game of the Battle of the Atlantic. It's a golden opportunity! Good Luck!

Dave and Paul, whatever is good for Matrix I see as a good thing for all of us. Congratulations! I would also assume that this will help Matrix's capital. Good job.

I think it's great to see another solid programming house come under Matrix's umbrella!!
But please...PLEASE...CHARGE US!! I want to pay my $ to you guys and gals for some quality products, not for T-shirts and coffee mugs (those I have in abundance and they don't present much of a tactical nor strategic challenge anymore).
In short, let me help, but let me get something out of it in return

Ever forwards!

All good things take time, and we are working to ensure our long term viability. While I understand the frustration with not having things to buy now, rest assured that we are doing our utmost to get quality products to you as quickly as possible.

Game development takes years, and having these OUTSTANDING game engines that basically need only some updating and graphics added, provide us a huge leg up in accelerating the process of "covering" the gamut of wargame periods with quality products. That we will be charging for - don't worry!

Think long term in this...

in looking up Simulations Canada there were quite alot of them, and i wish i got to play some of their games - what Sim Can games did Matrix end up publishing?

Unfortunately I do not think they ended up doing any.

I had a few SimCan games in the 80s and 90s.

The ones I had were half computer and half board game. You had a regular board wargame with chits and the computer did the combat results.
