Updating database of scen1 in ongoing pbem.

I want to change some device specifics in the editor, mostly to mirror the updated andy scenarios. I copied scen1, made the changes then replaced all the 001 scen files with those of the new scenario and every time I try to update I get the prompt "Failed to update". Is this some kind of lock on updating main range 0-25 scenarios and if so can I bypass it?

Slots 26 thru 200 are for mods. Save to one of those....GP

Well then I wouldn't be able to update the PBEM

. I have seen references to it being possible and the ingame blurb "Add database changes to this official campaign?" indicates that there is some way to do so.

Scen slots 000-025 are reserved for dev scenarios.

You can do things like change the names of ships that are not yet on the map. But making major data base changes is not possible in on going games....GP

You cannot edit a save game of any type. Only scenario files can be editied and saved in any loc between 026-199.

Actually you can in a way.
Make changes to scenario database (it's not editing save game, that would require serious hacking skills etc.) and next time you load your save, game asks "Add changes to current game" or something like that. I have done it several times.
There are certain limits one can do during ongoing game, I have not done much to explore what is possible. I have just made some minor modifications to ships during game, mostly successful, sometimes not so...
In PBEM it'd inform your opponent that database has been changed. So I think that sort of stuff IS possible similarly. But only if scenario is saved in slots 26-100, 1-25 are protected from changes, since they are "official". But you can copy protected scenario to slot 26+ and mod your hearts content.

In an ongoing "modified" scenario game originating from slots 26-100 you can't do much with ships or leaders or pilots. But you can advance the arrival date of all aircraft models, modify their attributes and do the same with the various devices (like bombs). So, it's certainly good that the "add database changes" message is there as a red flag if such a scenario is being used between two PBEM opponents to give some warning that something might be up.
Of course, if you notice your opponent is suddenly flying P-51 Mustangs in 1942 that might be a dead giveaway too.

Especially if your opponent is playing the Japanese side ...

For the record this is with my opponents consent

. We wanted to fix the broken radar upgrade path for japan and make usn subs switch over to the mk12 after the mk10 stops producing. I gather that I am SOL then because it is an official scenario, oh well.
