Newton solar system

I have DWU and I really enjoy it. And I am not in a hurry to replace it.

What I particularly like is the Newtonian representation of solar systems. And quite honestly, the problems when the game came out plus the fact that the planets no longer revolve around a sun completely put me off buying it.

Has DW2 improved on this since its release?

No. The planets are still stationary....GP

Thanks, so I will pass once again.

The developers have stated it is possible to have the planet and moons orbit but the gameplay benefit versus the demand on the game performance does not make it likely to happen. The game benefit would be nearly zero as the bodies would orbit so slowly around the stars so the benefit of having it would be very small or not matter at all.

It is not impossible they will eventually add it, but I don't see it as likely that they will rather than add other mechanics that put demand on the system with allot more impact on the game.

But sorry, maybe I misunderstood. Are the planets in orbit of a sun even if they do not rotate?

I fail to find a screenshot of a solar system in DW2.

Planets do rotate around their own axis but they don't orbit the sun or as moons. That is what would take too much resources for rather little game impact currently, so the probability we get this feature are currently pretty small.

I would like to have this feature as well as long as it does not impact performance or hinder them from adding other more interesting mechanics.

It certainly is not a critical feature at this time. The reason for why it would have very little impact is that thrust speed relative to system size is very different from DWU in DW2.

I miss this feature so much too... But DW2 has overall better performance on my PC and space warfare looks nice.

I think you'd have to handle planets and stations like combat targets all the time, in order to steer ships towards them. Even with some simplification due to predictable circular or elliptic orbits that's still a substantial amount of CPU work.

Go back to Distant Worlds 1 - Planets rotate around their sun, moons around their planets :-)

ahh, here is the exact location where you can see the rotation around the sun
