possible campaign bug

or, perhaps, I just need to read the manual better.

okay, I developed my first campaign squad in the Squad D slot. Went through, finally managed to win my first campaign game. Very hard but ultimately rewarding fight. Got the victory screen, showed my money increase, exp, the little victory debriefing.

Neat, i thought. Time to go back to the HQ to spend my XP.

So, back to the HQ I go. Hey, what is this, no new XP?
Hrm, my money is the same too, and my Titans are undamaged.

My win/loss wasn't updated either.

Okay, try again. Campaign squad in Squad A slot. Win, easier this time, as I now know what I am doing. Sure enough, XP, money, and win/loss updated as supposed to, titans are damaged, and have to repaired.

I'll have to do more testing, but it appears (from several fights both my friend and I have done) that Squad A is the only one capable of going on the single player missions and campaigns and actually getting experience/money and so on.

Is this intentional, if not, anyone else have this problem?

Are you sure you weren't using a special squad in your slot D? It should show as Special in the statistics screen right after battle.
That's the only situation when a suad is not updated. Nothing to do with the slots. I've used slots other than A and squads are updated. My special squad is slot A and my campaign one B.
I suppose it's not a read only file?

actually, it is apparantly weirder than that. I can't seem to duplicate it exactly, but it seems that no matter which slot the squad is in, from a fresh install the first two or so wins/losses aren't being recorded.

I've tried this a few times on my friends computer, and on mine, and sometimes it'll work correctly from a new install, and sometimes it won't. but once it starts working, it keeps working.

and it only ever effects the first game or two.

damnedest thing I've seen, but not that bad a problem, really. as I said, everything is fine now.

just thought I'd put this out there and see if any one else had had this problem.

Actually there is a chance that a squad isn't saved. Its when you loose a campaign map and the map has a flag which will only allow to advance to the next map in case of victory.

There will be some text like "DEFEAT FOR YOUR SQUAD. PLEASE RETRY THE MISSION"

In this case the battle damage is not saved. This is true for the first map of the savannah campaign. It should help players to succeed as if the battle was never fought by this squad.

The final screen doesn't have a squad status entry. You can easily reproduce by ejecting your squad immediatly after starting the mission.

You said you had won with squadD as it happened. Are you sure ?

yeah. I remember becaus it was my first victory. I had fought that first mission twice, and failed (and now I know why that damage wasn't recorded), then tweaked my squad and tried again, and eked out a victory.

I was miffed that it didn't advance me at all.

Hrm, with your explanation, now the only oddity I have is that my Squad D did not advance like it should. In the other cases, we lost that mission the first few times.

Let me go see if I can reproduce this problem. If not, I'll just write it off as a fluke, a one off weirdness that you sometimes get with PC's.

Actually, c1m1 has the advance if defeated flag set to yes. So...

It would be nice if you can reproduce so we can nail it if its a bug.

okay, this is a few months behind, but i'm having the same exact problem. I have squad A, and i have already gone through the first 2 savannah maps. I barely, BARELY manage to get one jock out in one piece. Two ejected, and one was blown clear of his mech, but all survived.
Short story is that I got the victory screen, but I'm still stuck as if i had never done it. If this is intentional, where would i have learned about this feature?

Thx

1. which map exactly ?
2. did you win or losse the map ?

Right, guess I'm working too much finishing it.

Here is the correct question :

Did you play the patched version of TOS: WS ?

It's the second savannah deep core processor plant mission. basically, the second mission of the campaign. this is version 1.10 TOS. I reached the exit area with 1 mech, and I got the VICTORY screen. I would assume that means I win. but then nothing in the HQ reflects my experience. mechs aren't damaged or anything. The main reason this troubles me is because i have already figured out how to get past the first mission.

'Savannah' and 'Deep Core' are two different campaigns.
The one you're refering to is Deep Core.

Deep Core on Planet Savannah. How's that for confusing.

The second mission in the first campaign.

The point, again, is that I get the VICTORY screen, but I can't advance to the next mission.

The first campaign is Savannah, not Deep Core [;)]

Currently I'm clueless about the problem. Never played the Deep Core campaign. Its kind of unofficial and not Vicious Byte approved.

The initial available download of Deep Core has only 2 missions. This was later upgraded to the 5 mission Deep Core that is now available. Check to see if you are using the 2 mission version. I don't know if this is your problem but I would also check to see if your squad is set to 'Read Only'.

Also, if you have already played through a map and finished then replay it via a save game your squad will not be updated. As if you had never played the map.

well, i didn't install anything but the retail game and the 1.10 patch. So unless the retail release or the official 1.10 patch have something unofficial in them, i didn't add anything like a 3rd party map.

here's where I am.

Campaign: Deep Core
Mission: Processor Plant
Mission Goal: Enter the exit zone
Fog of War: enabled
Difficulty: easy
Location: Planet Savannah, 6th Decant

I don't know what all that means, but i got it from the F9 Mission Briefing screen.

I think I may have discovered the problem. Apparently, the game does not like it when you try to use extra saves. I am of the understanding that if you use anything besides the autosave, your current mission will be invalid for the rest of the campaign. so I will play by only using and restoring from the autosave. wish me luck.

I'm finally getting the hang of this game. they really could have made some better interface design decions, like being more clear about the attack and move menus, as well as putting the attack and move orders in a separate area. But it's still more comprehensible and much more enjoyable than anything made by Derek Smart. heh

You can save and replay in campaigns. What you can't do is replay a mission by loading a save game after you completed it already. What map of this campaign can you select now with your squad, map 2 or 3 ?

Make sure you check the top squad line of the victory screen. At the end of the line there is a status field. If your squad isn't updated for any reason it will be displayed in red.
