I'm playing the Shifting Sands scenario Red Sea Rumble. Early in the game an Egyptian DD El Qaher fires on my 2 FFLs and the Fleet Oiler and sinks them.He's firing from outside my guns range while my FFLs are racing South to get within range, but he sinks all three.

This only happens some of the times. Other times he's within my range and my Frigates sink him.

I've checked everything I can think of; radar on, weapons free.

Can you tell me what I might be missing?

There's nothing wrong. He simply has guns that are longer ranged then yours.

I’ve run it several times, sometimes he fires and sometimes he doesn’t. The AAR I read didn’t have him firing.

I have a similar problem with the scenario New Age. I sent a Missile Gunboat NE from Port Said searching for Israeli naval units and soon found a destroyer. I was unable to fire a missile either auto-fire or manual. Again I checked the settings to see if there was something preventing firing. It seems that I'm probably missing something elementary but I don't know what it is. Anybody have any suggestions?

I think it is because the radar is not active.

Well, until the OP posts a save, its all guess work.

The radar wasn't on. I was confused by the relationship between inheritance, the sensor button on the right, and Unit Emcon.
Works now.

El Qaher radar is also not active, not sure it is WAD or related with what you comment in the first post.

Who designed Shifting Sands?

Is he still active in the forum?

I ran it again, made sure my radar was active. The Egyptian destroyer was heading toward the oiler at high speed. The only way that worked was ID as hostile, set a course to the DD at Flank, and set Engage Target at Auto. The UK Frigate started firing at the DD and eventually sunk it, but didn't ID it until 4 miles away.
So I think my new protocol is going to be "fire at any ship heading towards me at high speed that' not ID'ed.
