Dispersed mode?

Hello,
what are the benefits from the dispersed mode? At the start of the long campaign some units (like Brigade Wallonien or the Korpsgruppe B) are divided at their attached frontlines via dispersed mode.
Well I see if I right click the battlefiled that this groups are assigned to the strongpoints but I dont see how this effects the defence value there. The manual dont give much here as well.
Any suggestions?

If you call the unit back together then the strong points associated with that unit disappear.. this means that the unit can now act and move like a normal unit, but it also means that the unit can only defend one hex as opposed to several in dispersed mode.
Also, when the unit is dispersed and the strong points are attacked, it doesnt actually damage the unit to which the strong points relate. So for example, if all of the strong points relating to a dispersed unit are destroyed, this has no effect on the unit at all.. the unit is still at full strength without damage.
I generally suggest you do not call a unit up - leave it dispersed.. unless you are very very very sure you dont need the strong points it has created.
Chris and I have been playing a game of TAO3 - as an AAR on Wacht am Rhein, Chris called upon of his dispersed units up thinking he didnt need the strongpoints.. since doing it he has regretted it.. it has caused him some problems.

Hello Rob,
thx for your reply. But what happens with these strongpoints who are additionally covered by dispersed units? Is there a stronger defence value?

I'll go out on a limb here, since I don't actually have played the game yet. :p However, if I'm not completely wrong, strongpoints can not exist without a covering unit? That is, there is no strongpoint if the unit isn't there? With additional units, you will have the bonus that they won't be affected at all by the attack as long as the strongpoint is not destroyed. So they will add to the defence value while not being directly in harm's way.
Oooh... can't wait to get my copy.

Hey there..
If you right click on the strongpoint in question (they are actually called Fortifications I think!), it will tell you what the defensive values of them are. These values will vary, depending upon what the scenario designer determines them to be when they create the scenario.
So the answer is yes and no. It depends on the scenario/battle. The best bet, as I said, if do a right click on each of them. Some of these things are **** tough as well! For example, the ones up in the extreme north in TAO3 (looks at Chris and laughs! - there are the ones he called up), are 3 steps strong, with a defense of 12 and auto repair in one turn! Thats tough!
Like I said, sometimes its not a good idea to call them up unless its panic stations and you have a good reason.
Also note that there are seperate CRT's for forts and strongpoints.
whoosh!

Hi Belisarius
The strongpoints in KP are always manned. If they are additionally covered by a unit via dispersed mode you only see the icon of this unit in the popup up that strongpoint.
But nothing like a stronger defence value or bonus to see.
Hi Rob,
thx for the link. I thought the stronpoint/fortification gameplay between Ardennes and KP is not similar!?
Also you are right some strongpoints have different defence values but it seems "dispersed units" dont effect this.

The application of strongpoints and forts is similar across TAO3 and KP (they both use the same engine). I guess you may be referring to a comment I made in the article.
The comment relates to how strongpoints and forts are different in KP as to how there WERE in TAO2.
whoosh!
