How to Upgrade 1.08.04 to 1.11.03 ?

Greetings, <S> All
Just picked this fantastic game up. I started with the original 1.08.04 then downloaded the upgrade to 1.11.03 installed both in order but I am sure I did something wrong. Maybe I did not get all the items I should to upgrade or I did not do it correctly. When attempting to start the game in 1.11.03 I get an application error and the game does not open or start. I know the error must be on my procedure.
Would a kind soul please post brief instructions and name what all I need from Matrix to properly upgrade this to 1.11.03? I went back to 1.08.04 and having a blast but want the newer version. I do not want the beta at this time.

Perhaps you did not directed the patch to the same folder where the game is installed?
And you are trying to run the game from this wrong folder?

No. I placed the patch file, once unzipped, into the folder where the 1.08 game was installed. Activated it and directed the installation to the same file folder as the installed game. And the desktop shortcut pointed to the folder the game was installed in.
I have several of Gary's games from Matrix and have updated them all in the same manner with no issues. Therefore either I am missing something, like some particular file beyond the patch file, or there is a more complex update procedure I am not aware of.
I would appreciate further help to get this corrected.

There's nothing else required. Did you check see if the original worked before applying the patch?
The best thing to do is uninstall and start again. It is possible you have a screwed inatall file but check each stage.

You should not place the installer in the game folder, there's always the chance something goes wrong.
There shall be no need to point the installer to the game folder unless you have moved it from the first installation you made.
To which file goes your desktop shortcut? Both Autorun.exe and WarInTheEast.exe should work
Have you tried to re-apply the update again?

Thank you both for your kind replies.
When I had the issue with the update to 1.11.03 I uninstalled the game then re-installed the 1.08.04 with no issues. I am running a campaign in that original 1.08.04 version that is working fine.
I believe I understand that you are directing me to place the unzipped update file for 1.11.03 to my Desktop folder and do the install from there, correct? I seem to remember I have done that for some other games I have. So you are likely correct that by placing it in the actual game folder and installing it from there I may have created the issue.
I do have one question, if I update to 1.11.03 will the current save game in the original 1.08.04 still function or is it rendered void with the update?

That I do not know, possible not but a search for the udate should yield the info.
