Not sure what I’m doing wrong but any PT group I create always gets wiped out, even if it is just up against PB and transports. They never do any damage. Any advice?

Run them in circles for 8 months to train them up until you invade the Solomons

There's not a lot you can do with these, strategy-wise. Check your commanders and make sure they have at least decent leadership. I wouldn't put Halsey or Nimitz in charge, but high aggression and naval skills.

They are pretty good "plywood shields" against bombardments.

And yes, they die easily, but sometimes they put torpedo or 2 into capital ships.

Use the weather and the moonlight to your advantage.

What RangerJoe said. Watch weather/moonlight and check the range of your torpedo device. Some torpedo devices have very short ranges (2000 yards?) which require very bad weater/low moonlight for successful attacks.

The British MTBs have a range of 2K while the American PT Boats have a range of 6K. I don't remember what the Dutch boats have but I think that they are 6k as well.

In my last 3 PBEMs I've sank dozens of transports and freighters in the early war Philippines, sometimes full of troops. Just pick a leader with high aggression, high-ish naval skill and use zero moonlight to your advantage. They died in droves but at least they made it worth it
