Anyway, found this site and looks like a very good overview for the long and confusing history of Harpoon.

Perhaps useful for someone in CMO forum. CMANO/CMO still creating its own history, is included at the end of the article.

If the player had an early version 1.0, they could call Three-Sixty Pacific, and a free upgrade would arrive in the mail.

Anyone called and is still present here?

I bought Harpoon Ultimate on sale last year, and surprised that keyboard shortcuts are almost identical between Harpoon and Command.


At Harpgamer.com you will find people who still discusses on Harpoon Classic (aka grandmother of Command while mother is Harpoon II/3).

Yup. I got at least one maybe two updates in the mail. Also regularly used a phone modem with long distance charges to call a bulletin board in NYC to get scenarios. Picked my own Christmas gift in 89, needed something to use on my brand new 286. Wouldn't call them all good days but that article makes me feel old for sure

You are a long time fan of this game and its successor

I am old enough to have lived in those times. A 286 was my first computer in my late teens, but never played Harpoon, any version. In those times I played adventure games like Indiana Jones and the Last crusade or RPG like the Dark heart of Uukrul. Oh, and related with Harpoon themes the simulator F-19 Stealth Fighter. But never updated a game by mail, if ever.

And the phone modem and my mother questioning the bill...

Cool, I've used to play it back then on my Amiga 500.

I have Harpoon Ultimate too. A bit sketchy to run on this system. Also have Harpoon II, but it's not installed. I think I've lost the key for it anyway.

Wow this brings back a lot of memories. I first started playing Harpoon in 1991. Over the years I acquired WinHarp, Classic, Commander's edition, II and III, CMANO and CMO. One thing that has always been consistent over the years is the game always seemed to tax current generation hardware and was always buggy (game and DB). So, I appreciate that they are still working on CMO and adding features and fixing bugs. These games have always been complex and hard to test and debug. At least CMO was developed faster than the software for the JSF
