I had one game where I did use the function to tell the system that I wanted to colonize a particular world, before I figured out how to do it manually. After my second one I noticed much later that after that planet had been successfully colonized that under my cash on hand number in the top right that the mouse-over pull-down showed it was still reserving that large chunk of money when I no longer had any planet designated for wanting to automatically colonize it. I think I colonized it manually once I figured out how to do so. Sorry no save file on this.
