Not sure to understand. You mean switching between advancement or upgrading from 1939 to 1940?

For the latter, you need to research the technology first.

For an air group, I can choose from close support to naval training before I attack a naval group in an expense of production. However, I cannot choose attacking submarine from warship for attacking a sub group. How do I do it like the air group?

Are you referring to choosing the convoy escort advancement for naval builds?

No.
The attachment shows the change of advancement for air group.
It may cause more damage as follows:
Naval Air Training applies to Surface Fleet Attack.
Detect. & Elec. applies to Sub Attack.
I ask for whether there has similar function for the change of advancement for naval group before attack.

I see. Land and air units can change their unit advancement for a price, but naval units no.

Why? Did you made a real comparaison between them? I don’t see Convoy Escort giving an advantage.

I imagine the reason you can't change the unit advancement for naval units is that they're pretty much designed exclusively for the role they're built for, and they represent a long-term investment in building. You might be able to train a formation of veteran pilots to do naval attack or other aerial disciplines by switching out their airframes and training them in new skills. You might even be able to re-adapt some airframes. But a battle group is never gonna be an ideal ASW platform. Surface action, bombardment and maybe AA escort is what they're locked into once they slide down the ways. The Japanese did attempt to convert some of their older battleships into half-assed carriers but they just ended up being inferior versions of both ship types.

Yes makes perfectly sense. I was wondering why it was needed to make a change here.
I don’t see the rationale.
