Thanks for the information. That was very helpful.

Do you know if CMO will be adding, or has plans to add, the Air LORA and Rafael ROCKS to the data base? They seem to garner a main billing with these recent events.

You can check the github db site for whats being worked on.

There is this request still open for the Air LORA.

I found nothing regarding the ROCKS in the github site.

Thanks.

I have another question pertaining to the attack.

What radar units does/did Iran typically have that actively search for ballistic missiles? The database lists several (one of which is the S-300), but they are all tied to SAM units. I would think that they would have something completely independent from the SAM.

I ran a few tests where I fired ground-based LORA at some Iranian targets. I placed several SAM units that do have radars that can detect incoming ballistic nearby, but unless you actually turn them to active, they won't detect anything. As a typical SAM, they need something to detect the incoming missile before they go active.

So, I was wondering if the Iranians had some independent radars, or do/did they just have their S-300 radars (Tombstone) always set to active? The articles, of course, didn't go into any of that.

Type this into google and it'll get you started...

"iranian radars that can detect ballistic missile"

That search led to this...

I am not Huib18 :)

Regarding the radars they are talking a lot about the Ghadir model, at least of 2 of them were targeted.

ISW overview of the known targets. Only one Ghadir listed though.

In the db Iran has both Ghadir and Rezonans, are they not the same?

Sort of but not the same. The Ghadir came out of Iran installing a Rezonans. But the Ghadir is a "development" of the other. Thats my understanding of it.

OK, so they "copied" the russian radar.

However the date of the Ghadir is earlier, 2013, than the iranian Rezonans (2019), and even than the russian (2014).

Russian wikipedia article of the Rezonans. It is said that the Ghadir is the export version of the Rezonans for Iran, the date is 2014.

The ukrainian versions includes more locations in Russia.

Looking at the CMO db, it appears that here are two Iranian RADAR STANDALONE Facilities (not coupled with a SAM) that have "ABM and Space Search" capabilities. (NAJM and REZONANS) (Note: The Tombstone radar WITHIN the S-300 also has this designation.) I did not see that designation for GHADIR.

I assume that Iran has more than just one of these two standalones. Would this be something that they have many, or would this be a very limited number.

I also assume that these radars would be located near some of the SAMs that could use their data, and that they would need to be operating most of the time, otherwise the main targets could be hit without any knowledge that they were under attack until it was too late.

Any other data that you can share would be appreciated. I can't seem to find how many of these radar units exist, and how they are generally used. This data would be critical for any scenario designer. In 2023 there were 7 REZONANS.

Thanks again

From what I read the Ghadir is ABM radar like the Rezonans, if they are not the same thing, and there are at least 7 of them.

3 more Ghadir/Rezonans in the Eastern and Southern Iran according to Samir.

I just ran another test. The radars pick up the launches (ground because we don't have the air) and they track them with no problem. The S-300 launches when it can. The S-300 suffers some hits, loses a battery or two, but does get some hits on the incoming LORAs. Everything works great.

I ran it without the REZONANS present, and with the Tombstone turned off, and the LORAs walked hit scored numerous hits with nothing shooting back at them.

It's really nice to see how well it works,

I can definitely see some new scenarios coming soon.
