Random Scenario Generator

I understand random maps can't be generated but why not scenarios? There's limited scenarios to play out of the box, and this feature often breathes life into both digital and tabletop games.

Id love something similar to the board game Combat Commander - select an OOB, posture, random map, add a few random objectives, job done.

Of course if this is something that can be done through modding I'll happily look into that.

I understand there is a scenario editor, but I don't want to have to create them manually every time.

Random Scenario Generation has a number of significant catches in our setup. First, we create scenarios with orders of battle and forces laid out to reflect real-world types and locations and then give the AI battle pans for those forces based on the mission objectives. You could have the player choose a map, weather, and time of day to start, then choose a mission type (attack/defend), choose nations, and then the size of the fight. From there, we would need to be able to grab force packages of the sizes needed for the mission type and scenario size. We are not able to do that right now. Also, the level of support forces (air and artillery) for both sides of the scenario must be determined. Next, depending on the map selection, the type, value, and location of objective locations must be somehow determined. This is probably the most significant sticking point since you can't slap VP location and values around at random and have a reasonable mission set up. We would have to devise a system for setting several valid mission setups for each type of mission for each map. Another significant lift would be giving the AI decent battle plans to do the mission based on the forces for both sides. Assuming you could write code to place units intelligently on any map with any package of forces, you still need the means to tell the units their SOPs and battle plans to deal with their mission objectives based on their role in the forces. We would need to write some impressive code to place those units and deal out those SOPs and battle plans. Not impossible. Just a ton of work that we don't have time to do right now with everything else we are doing. I'll say that this idea is not dead by any means. We would like to have a capability like this in the future when we have the resources to make it work.
