How do I transfer a general direct from one HQ to another?

You can not transfer generals...you have to just move the HQs...

And honestly it is just bad luck.

I had one game as the Russians where in the first year every General better than a 5-5-6 was killed...It was brutal.

The current game...all have survived and prospered.
And I just killed Rommel...
Might have been the first general killed in the war to be honest and it is early 1943.


I wish you could see killed Generals and sunk ships in Europe...

Of course. People die. But not always the first turn.

Allies can lose leaders also

Nobody has an exception for eating the apple except the only one in the bible.
Ironically, an apple made Newton famous.
Apple hurts. People die and Newton's head knocks out.

So how are the dead generals replaced?

Is the replacement always slightly worse or is it random?

It is replaced with a subordinate, you get a popup icon on the right, and it is in the summary.
Then using points you can give the HQ another leader.

Dead generals are replaced by another so not a generic subordinate.
I could not find a gamesave but I found a screenshot.

Randomly. You are just picking the best generals so you are left with the worst in the pool.
