Cool or unusual WiF things

It's been a bit quiet around here so I thought I'd post something. What cool or unusual things have you done or seen in WiF or MWiF? A successful invasion of Hawai'i? How about Australia? A "Plan Orient" link up with the Euro Axis. Total Axis global domination?

On the other hand, have you seen the Axis get almost nowhere, perhaps bogged down in France? How does that affect Japan?

Not really so surprising but not usual:

- Conquest of Gibraltar by Axis (and consequent alignment of Spain).

- Conquest of Turkey by the Axis through the Bosphorus and new front for USSR at the Caucasus.

- Nearly total conquest of China.

Axis completely conquers USSR and bases German and Italian Navs around Vladivostok.

Chinese Communist land units and Chinese Nationalist air units assisting the Russian counteroffensive towards Berlin. (NOT the same game and yes, the Chinese needed FTC, but not for the Chinese Nationalist heroic anti-partisan fighters in Iran and Iraq).

Australia conquered by Japan (again not the same game as either of the above)

Japanese surprise port strike on San Diego (also a different game).

- Germany not able to reach Paris, so Axis DOW Switzerland in a desperate attempt to outflank the Allies.
- Germany declaring war on USSR in the summer 1940 with a strong France remaining.
- CW declaring war on Japan early, then invades on the Japanese carrier fleet and captures 4 CVs and destroys another CV.
- Spring 1940, Germany has just captured Brussels and planning to attack France that had a massive BEF in support. Then thinking that England is underdefended and invades England instead. Fails to achieve anything significant in England and France survives into fall 1940 and Germany surrenders. Although, for a while, there was a Allied concern that London might fall.

The USSR declaring war on Germany in 1940 (not enough German garrison in Poland) resulting in France not getting conquered by Germany.

I continue to work on refining, improving and expanding my MWIF playing aids; specifically, (a) MAGIC and (b) EXCEL based playing aids and AAR logging spreadsheets.

If I my be so bold I'd like to illustrate such in this and the next post.

EXCEL AAR Combat Log Spreadsheet.
(1) Latest refinements include single line combat log entries,
(2) "Real-time" variable headers (currently 55 types) for various combat log type entries.
(3) Refined combat log entries to remove redundancy and improve informative entries.

MAGIC.
(4) Added naval analysis reports, including BOA (Battle of Atlantic) threat & risk reports.
(5) Mated MAGIC csv outputs with EXCEL report.

Practical Use Example.

Allied CP Chain.
(1) Allied (CW & French) CP Chain just after CW & French "surprise" DOW on Germany.

Euro Axis Threat.
(2) BOA Risk includes active German U-Boats, KM surface raiders and neutral Italian subs.

Surprise Port Strike & Post Risk, Escort & Patrol Combat Log.
(3) RAF decided to surprise port strike Kiel resulting in the sinking of the CA Graf Spee and flipping of the CA Deutschland, effectively removing KM surface raider risk.
(4) The impact also limited German risk to three sea areas (Faeroes Gap, North Atlantic & Bay of Biscay).

Impact of Surprise Port Strike on BOA Risk.
(5) However; the threat from a neutral Italian sub threat can only be ignored at the allies' on peril.

I, as the Axis, played a friend who was still learning the game but also the Axis had good luck with the weather and rolls. Poland, Denmark, Netherlands and Belgium fell quickly enough and the weather stayed good enough for a late Autumn invasion of France. The BEF was encircled and destroyed and Vichy was declared by Spring.

I thought about invading England but the strength of the Royal Navy and my land-focused production deterred me. Instead, I redeployed my armies for a 1940 Barbarossa, which is a nightmare for the Allies. The USSR is far weaker in 1940 than 1941 and it was rough for the Russkies. Moscow fell before a nasty Winter stalled the Germans but Spring 1941 saw them back on the offensive against faltering opposition. This is the situation in April 1941.

Meanwhile, after biding their time and a careful build-up, The Italians suddenly declared war on the Commonwealth and invaded Egypt. The fall of Alexandria led to a panicked flight of administration and supply forces from Cairo. The Italians fanned out into Palestine, with all that lovely oil seemingly for the taking.

The Germans continued advancing to almost the Urals. The loss of industrial areas really hurts the USSR and the cities thin out east of Moscow, meaning placing reinforcements where they can be most useful becomes difficult. Russia looks crippled and some or most of that huge German army can start looking south towards the Middle East and India. Things are normal in China but Japan must be licking their lips. At this point we put the game on hold. We may come back to it to see how it develops.

Woah! What is required for a conquest of the USSR? How did the invasion of Australia play out? I dimly recall from WiF landing north of Brisbane and driving south. How did the strike on San Diego go?

I was on the Allied side when we had a poor US player. Japan captured Pearl on the invasion turn, capturing the Wasp. The game did not get much further.

Maybe not especially cool, but I guess most readers on this board have never finished a MWIF game? Probably <98% of all games started never get finished? For those interested, I want to share some screenshots.

A friend and me bought a copy each of MWIF about 10 years ago, after I monitored the development of the game since 2004 or 2005 on these forum quite closely. We started a mirror game (each of us played each side with same rule set, comparing results for overall winner) of Barbarossa/Fast start scenario to (re-)learn the game mechanics. Next match was mirror game of Barbarossa with free Setup and most optional rules. After that we moved to Guadalcanal scenario to learn the naval rules and tactics, again as a mirror game. Next challenge should have been a one-map scenario, but unfortunately none are not yet fully coded. So instead we started the Decline & Fall scenario (8 turns) as mirror game. I think, we started still under MWIF 3.2.0, but finished the 2nd game under MWIF 4.4.1.

Me as Allies conquered Rome in the first turn and Berlin surrendered in 45JF already, but Tokyo fell only in the last turn of 45JA. I had probably overcommitted with the USA in Europe and did not play so well in Asia-Pacific in general, so it was quite close in the end to still get the automatic victory. The screenshot is from the 2nd game, which was won by the Axis side by a decisive margin:
