QUICK tutorial on how to change unit names in an editor?
Hello.
The unit names are e.g "Panzer Grenadier Regiment 901".
I want to change them in campaign scenario itself so when I start a new game I don't have to do them all by hand again.
I specifically want to change...
. say "[Panzer Grenadier Regiment 901]" to
"PGR 901/I bn (Hauser)" (or "901.PGR/I btn (Hauser)"),
"PGR 901/II bn (Hauser)",
"PGR 901/III bn (Hauser)"
(or maybe no Kdr name -- "Pz Gren Reg 901/I bn", or "901.Pz Gren Reg/I btn");
And tile names to
"1/901", "2/901", "3/901". (or "901/1", "901/2", etc.)
. "Kampfgruppe Hauser" to "KG Hauser-901.Rgt/Kt-1" (or ".../G-1"); tile name to "G901" or "901-1".
["Kt" = "Kampftruppe"]
["G" = "Gruppe"]
. recon unit names to say "Knittel-AufAb1/G-1". (Or maybe "KG Knittel - Recce/Kt-1", etc.) The tile name to "GRec1".
. "[Fusilier Battalion]" to "xxx.VGD Fusilier Bn (Aufklärung)".
Those changes help noobs grok from start the game scale, who belongs to who, and what role units had. (User shouldn't have to be an historian to fully enjoy the game.)
(This change/"mod" should be for game itself and done by devs, since user changes to master file can't just be trusted. Meaning I could upload a modded master file, but how will users/devs know I didn't fiddle with values? [see below])
I haven't decided what to name -- how to class -- these detachments. Any choices, from above name options? Do you have your own name suggestions? (Can names have umlauts?)
Does anyone know what smaller detachments and groups were called?
.......
"Kampfgruppe" [KG] IS a generic-size term. But it often meant "Rgt. Commanders' combined arms/mixed assets Battle Groups." Assets were added temporarilly for specific tasks.
...Main KG/BG = a rgt's three infantry btns (and its support-weapons 'btn') with div, korps, armee assets attached. Divs' recon btn are named KGs too.
I have seen the following words used for smaller KG and KG detachments...
.Kampftruppe: btn or less, especially FlaK
.Kampfabteilung: Btn siz. Skorzeny’s [spy] 'SS Brigade 150' btns on paper were called this; but ultimately they were named "X"(Hardieck), "Y"(Sherff), "Z"(Wolf)
.Gruppe: squad in platoon OR generic size
.Staffel: generic size (or Lufwaffe smallest fixed size [old German "pillar"])
.ErsatzGruppe/ ErsatzAbteilung:
"Brigade" is a fixed formation. It usually meant large Regiment size but has been seen for Btn/Abteilung size.
Allies:
.Battle Groups: generic-size term, often Rgt plus assets
.Task Force: rgt plus assets battlegroup
.Task Groups: are smaller detachments or groups
.Teams: task specifc small task groups
.Combat Commands "CC": armor battalions. (Often 3 per division.)
........
