why would 2 carriers and 2 DD groups only yield a 2% support bonus vs subs?

the group in question is directly next to the subs in question and on the merchant route

also, am i correct that cruisers are no help at all vs subs?

Correct, cruisers won't help. 2% only, I don't remember. Seems low but I did not practice since a long time.

Just an experiment, 2 CV and 1 DD groups against one sub group give 6% of sub hunter bonus.

i thought in the manual it gave the breakdown of how much each group helped, percentage wise, but try as i might, i cannot find that information

in said example, my best guess is a dd is 1% and carrier group 2.5%?

as of right now, my best guess for my situation is this:

the combat was in the north atlantic and i was using french DD groups

france cannot deploy her escorts to the north atl route

i'm guessing that french surface units cannot work with UK escorts

Based on some basic testing...

DD = 1%
CV = 2%

French work in both North and South Atlantic...so just matters if a convoy is running it seems and you are at war.


I would have to make a complete guess as to what you issue may have been.
My best guess is that maybe your ships were not on the convoy route but next to it? I have done that before.
Another possibility they subs were more then 24 hexes from the fleet.
But just guesses.
