Has something changed in Shadow Empire in terms of the alignment of new leaders and factions? My recent games show a huge divergence between the ethics I chose at player empire generation and new leaders and factions. I'm not enjoying such fractured politics.

I don't think there was ever a match between the starting factions/leaders and your choice of profiles.
But, if you insist on the same profile, the factions will orient their missing profiles towards yours.
I think Vic found a perfect balance.
