BFs and movement

AA units on the move (Combat, Move, Rest, Reserve and Strategic) cna still shoot their AA guns at aircraft albeit with a reduced(?) efficiency.

However, does that mean that Base Forces can still used their Sound Detectors/ Radars/Observor Corps to DETECT incoming aircraft while on the move?

I've never tested this, so I have no idea.

I have never seen this discussed by Alfred or the development teams. I doubt very much that they would model setting up heavy radars or sound detectors (giant ear horns) to detect air raids every few minutes during a march. Even observers need a vantage point to use their binoculars. So I would guess there is no increase in Detection probability from having a BF in the marching column.
But if the troops are marching in a Base Hex (not at the base but marching to or from) the BF at the base might be able to warn the troops of incoming air raids. I doubt the model includes such a warning, but it is a defendable possibility.

I will try though each turn there is so much going on.

Well, there is this thing that when unit in Move-mode is attacked by air, it switches to Combat-mode.

I don't think unit in Strategic-mode does.

So, in that sense, unit in Move-mode is already in "semi-combat"-mode and would make sense that their sensor systems are too, sort of "leap-frogging" (which is normal in modern military too).

My two penny worth.

I doubt that vey much they operated on the march. You can forget strategic move, everything packed on wagons or trucks. As for move mode, we are talking about the 1940s here, no minituration, requiring big amounts of power to operate, no portable batteries as we know them, all lead acid, or mobile generators on trucks. It all took a few hours to set up many having to be unloaded from and not mount on trucks.

EW from radars set up behind the lines would work but it would require a few minimum of two for each unit, probably three to keep up with the grunts.

Then there's the time frame late 42, early 43 at best.

All in all I'd say early warning while on the march was done by the mark 1 ear and eye.

Having said all that I've never thought abot it in game and is not a concern.

It's definitely not an issue.

Especially when radar detection doesn't exceed the hex.
