Does KP use Mark Monitor or any other kind of copy protection that attempts to connect out to the Internet to report a registration number or file location?

Ever since installing KP my computer has been attempting to contact various IP addresses on the Internet. I've run the latest McAfee and Ad-aware and both come up negative on viruses/trojans and spyware. Thanks.

Elmo to the very best of my knowledge it does not. Perhaps it was one of the subsidiary programs you may have chosen to install with Korsun such as Acrobat Reader or similar?

If you are running WinXP why not ctrl-Alt-Del and see if you can nail down the process in question?

Already had Acrobat installed so I did not install it or any other program that comes with KP. The process is svchost.exe which IE, DNS, and other programs use to make an Internet connection. The offshoot of this is that I keep getting popups on the screen asking me to go to a site that will remove popups. I'm using McAfee's firewall to block these sites as they come up but whatever is causing the problem is very hard to nail down and very annoying.

I'm not saying it's KP but it is one theory to be explored. I may uninstall it to see if the problem goes away. Not pointing any fingers, just trying to fix a problem and want to know if KP is accessing the Internet in any way. Thanks.

Can someone at Matrix please answer the question? Does KP access the Internet as part of the copy protection? Thanks.

I have KP, It never attempts to access the internet.

When I am aboput to send a email turn, KP never tries to access the internet. I have to actually log on myself.

Your problem is elsewhere.

I have a cable modem and so I'm on the Internet all the time. My KP automatically sends email turns but that is not what I'm asking. I'm asking Matrix if the copy protection accesses the Internet. Many forms of copy protection do and you wouldn't even know if.

I had a problem once getting these anoying popups advertising a popup blocker too. I solved it by checking the "Internet Connection Firewall" box under the advanced tab of my internet connection.

Hi Guys

Matrix Games does not use anything at all like this that we know of. Our copy protection does not require anyone or anything to be on the internet in order to run our games.

Hey those pop up windows, are they all grey background windows by any chance?

You comment made me think that you are talking about a hassle built into Windows, the Windows Messenger Serivce.

Is that perhaps the problem? That function can be turned off eh.

I am thinking this isn't the problem though, just sounds similar.

Yup, those are the ones. It says something like "go here if you want to stop these annoying popups". Of course I'm not going there! I see Messenger in the lower right tray but I never use it. Maybe just having it running gives someone a window into my system? I got a free popup blocker which is working so far while I investigate further. My system is trying to make outbound connections to some odd places and I'm blocking them with McAfee when it tries. Both virus scans and ad-aware scans are negative which is interesting.

Sorry for being off topic now but if anyone has a permanent solution (other than Linux ) I'd be grateful.

Well it will certainly open specific ports and make connections as required if you have it going, no doubt. If you don't use it, remove it, it's one less thing to worry about. Google for the removal patch, it's out there somewhere.

This is most likly a worm/virus you caught. There are a number out there who do such things

That's what I thought but the latest McAfee says I have no problems.

Will look for a way to nuke Messenger, or I may just block all traffic to/from it with my firewall.

I used 'Search and Destroy' anti-spyware recently on my computer. For some reason it's flagging my Korsun Pocket desktop shortcut. It was classified under the category "secret remote" or "secret romance" or soemthing secret anyway. I've yet to look up this terminology through the internet, but I'll have to run that software again to know for sure..

I did more research. What I referred to as 'Search and Destroy' is Spybot. I had Spybot check again, and the term the KP shortcut was flagged for was a "secret-crush". Here's a defintion of that:

A trojan that may reset your browser's home page and/or search settings to point to other sites. Such sites are sometimes porn sites, often loaded with advertisting. Homepage Hijackers may prevent you from changing your browsers's homepage.

My personal view is to use some other software since that is NOT done at all by us.

That´s BS and clearly a false report by the program.
