Hi, I have a question about support units. Where are they best placed, in the HQ or should they be added to a troop? How would they be most effective? Thanks!!

Yes and yes. Answer is a bit nuanced. If you attach a SU to the first direct line HQ (ie, axis Korps level or soviet Army level), then the leader has to make die rolls to determine if the SU joins the combat of the HQs subordinate units (i.e., higher leader ratings for initiative means more likely they will successfully make the die roll - but never guaranteed). If you want to guarantee the SU will participate in a combat, then you should attach it directly to the combat unit (of course, the downside to attaching it directly to the unit is that it can now only participate in combats that that particular unit is involved in). One thing to consider also is that every time you transfer a SU it loses 50 percent of its current CPP (so some planning may be in order when you do the transfers in order to maximize the SUs effectiveness).

Yeah, I understand that if a support unit is attached to a headquarters, all troops attached to that headquarters can use them in their attacks
. Whereas if you attach a support unit to a troop, only that troop uses it, and they also spend more CPP points
. So, from what I understand, it's better to have a headquarters with high initiative and attach all support units to it.
I'm asking this mainly so I don't go crazy with the support units and just leave them as they are in general? Thanks!!
For example, if a HQ is above another HQ and contains support units, will it also enter combat even if they are far away?

Support units 2 HQ levels up never assist in battles. So have your support units in combat units or the first level of HQs. Flak that can go into combat units is best directly attached, as they won't assist against aircraft when committed from a HQ. Since most air battles are fought at the front lines, better to have the flak somewhere in the front. Combat units that will be involved in a lot of combat are good places to put support units. Don't over concentrate support units in any one HQ, as it's easier to get the first support unit to commit into battle than the 2nd, etc.
