squad suggestion please

I built my starting squad of three up to second level. Then procceded to loose my leader by way of death.
Now I have a new leader who is far behind the other jocks in stats and does not get much if any exp after a victory.
Not sure if I should stick with the new leader or start over. Which I don't mind because I love this game, but I don't want to waste too much time.
Please forgive my ignorance.
Any suggestions?
