Open Source Close Combat?

Hello. I'm new on these forums, but I'm not new to Close Combat. I've loved it since I was a kid.
I was wondering if someone at Slitherine would kindly consider open sourcing the code to one of the older original series Close Combat games?
It seems such a shame that these games really aren't getting the love they deserve, and to be quite honest, the engine is a relic now, with Close Combat 2 being released in 1997.
Doom was released only 4 years earlier in 1993.
Open sourcing the code base for one of the older games would allow the game to thrive, with dedicated software engineering fans of the series able to overhaul it for what the community wants.
I believe this can only be a huge positive for public relations and marketing sales of the Close Combat games, considering that the other assets would still be required to run the game, even using the open source engine.
I think this would be the best move for this ancient series of well loved games, which clearly are not able to be given the proper development funding.
Thanks for hearing me out.
