As stated in the title when helicopters are assigned to take off without a mission they automatically go RTB after take off and land again straight away.

I have made a small test scenario with one airbase and five different helicopters assigned. They are already set to take off so just run for about 10 minutes and observe . It does not seem to be affecting fixed wing aircraft and drones, but does affect drone helicopters.

thanks for highlighting the issue, it should be fixed for the next update release

For single units was fixed in B1662, now it's also fixed for groups in the next release.
