Aviation Support On Carrier

I'm working on a personal mod and just wondering if anyone has ever added aviation support to the Unicorn class to replicate it being a repair/auxiliary carrier? Is this a little too ambitious for the game engine?

Some British CV'S upgrade to a larger air group later in the war. So yes you could....GP

General, are you referring to device 254 (aviation support) or air capacity?

Air capacity. Aviation support is a ground unit thing....GP

Too ambitious. Ships do not have the ability to improve their onboard aircraft repair rate. System repair on ships is purely down to the ship's system damage with no damage being the same fixed rate for all types of ship.

A ships air capacity governs how many aircraft it can operate and maintain which is in effect the same as AV but the repair rate is down to sys damage.

Reading up on Unicorn she seemed to spend a lot of her time in the far east as a ferry. Like all carriers you can cram upto 200% of her air cap on her. But no ops other than air transfer are available over 115%.

If you change the Unicorn class to AV, you can then assign 254 in slot 19. See 2092 Kamoi AV in S001 as an example.

Now, if the ship has both supply on board and Ops points, then it will add it's net Seaplane Support value to the Aviation Support of the base. The net seaplane support of the ship is the Armor value of slot 19 if set to 254 minus the number of planes on board the ship.

I think this is what you are looking to do ... this only works for the AV class ....

I'm not sure that will work. Yes it increases support for the base but it will not improve the repair rate for aircraft still on the ship and nor will it assist in anything other than seaplanes (FP/FF/PA) at the base.

Only carrier type ships have the ability to to maintain none seaplane type aircraft on a ship as standard. I did try changing slot 19 on a carrier to AV but it had no effect other than to remove tropedo ordance if the carrier had any.

These rules I believe are game design and cannot be changed. AV is purely shore based support and then selective as in tenders.

Are you sure that if the Aviation support of the AV is added to the base, this shall not impact ALL the aviation support functions of the base, included yes improved repair for the planes based there even if not FP?

Not what I said. It does but only for seaplanes. AV on ship does not support land based a/c, again with the exception of seaplanes. Land based AV does not support ship based a/c of any type.

In my mod.... I made the AG on these ships as Replacement groups which they were, but in stock game, only reflected on US ships. I also given them more sorties.

In addition, about the time deck parking and or more robust planes could be used, the capacities of mainly UK CVs increase ( as they did). Same for USA once we have folding wings, etc., plus deck parking.

Conversely, I did reduce the AG on some Japanese carriers as they are too high when you take into account the overspill rule. This means Akagi and Kaga start with the correct volume of aircraft. BUT in fact they carried a slot of spares and parts this cannot be simulated in the game. However, one thing I did not try was starting the reserve aircraft at say 9. Maybe I will take a look at that and see if it works. In-game, you can only raise it to 3. But I am not sure what will happen if you set it higher in the editor, will it stay at say 9, or will it run down and never again be allowed to go over 3?

EDIT - Just tested it, anything over 3 set in the editor adds to the Air units, so overloads the CV.

Yes it adds to the base but only for FP.
