Should not be necessary as you can already do that... just make the queue and set the ship directly to automation. It will execute everything in the queue and then start with automated functions.

I'm pretty sure that I tried once to reautomate a ship with queued missions, and the queue was cleared. But I just tried again and it works (I must have mis-clicked when I tried earlier).
