US Navy active ships

What is the best and easiest online source of information could I use that will list all active ships in a given navy (USA) on a specific year? Trying to find numbers is easy, finding WHAT was active or not is a challenge. Seems like no single source does it well or does it at all. Simple Google search results have been trivial. When I make a scenario, I don't just want to "make sheet up".

EXAMPLE: I want accurate OOB for the US Navy in 2008 for a scenario pitting the Middle East/NATO against Iran. Finding army and air force material for all sides is easy. But for US Navy? Bit of a problem.

How do you fellow game makers do it? I'm looking at YOU thewood1 and Gunner98. You two in particular from what I have seen over the years have it down to a science. But anyone may provide input.

Or, do I really get to just...make sheet up?

The Military Balance 2009 relevant pages for the USN may be previewed in Google books

https://www.google.com/books/edition/Th ... wAAQBAJ?hl

I have saved them in case you cannot preview them.

Could not find the 2008 version.

Also is out there Jane's Fighting Ships 2009-2010, not 2008-2009. Copyrighted of course :)

Another source is Raytheon posters, the older ones are more difficult to find.
