Finally made it though some battles in the Watchword Freedom campaign. In the third battle I really messed things up. In the second battle I Didnt quite get passed the bridgeds at Lysanka. So the third battle for the town was neccesary. Beginning was all right, but then things got ugly. Really agly Huge losses and I just about lost all my experienced tank commanders. A couple had already 10 kills. Did I cry or did I weap? BOTH!
The partisans were a mother. But I still managed a marginal. 1 decisive, 2 marginal so far.
Ill have to redo this battle, my forces are in shambles. I love this game!!!!!!
What bug did I perhaps come across?
The soviet paratroopers. Besides being of something harder than flesh (that is a understatement when it comes to SO paartisans), the squad sizes seemed just about ridiculous. I was confronted at one moment with three SO para squads where I had inflicted (according to the info message) more than 40 casualties. One had actually in the end 51 casualty. Did they run. Not even. Ok, they didnt actually dash forward, but they had no intention to calll it quits! So was this a bug or was it double vision?

In earlier versions of the game having "Reduced Squads - ON" could create this problem. Turn "Reduced Squads - OFF" and see what happens.

Hmm..I thought that was just a planned surprise that Wild Bill usually puts in Image

Nah, I wouldn't be that cruel Image

I checked the scenario and they do have 12 men initally. Where those other 30 come from is a surprise to me.

I think old BA might have hit the nail on the head. Reduced squads, though it shouldn't, could be the problem.

Hi guys!
I checked the reduced squad option and it was on. Im running complete V4,5 install. I thought it was rather interresting having these huge squads up against me because I got the feeling that russian hordes were just like the seawaves, shoot all you like at them, they wont mind and will come just the same - To copy and distort a werbal quote of a german in russia (who was it - von Mellethin?, at least that my reference)
Ill report in on this if it occurs again, Ill have to play that battle again anyway.

Same thing happened to me. Three Soviet parachute squads that kept me pinned because I just kept shooting and they kept taking casualties. I didn't dare move anyone away because I didn't know how big they were. When the game was over I checked in the stats and the three units started with at least 100 men a squad -- one had 200! This is the only place that happened, and I always have reduced squad-on. I can try it without it on, but it doesn't seem to make sense. I thought, as usual, Bill had pulled one of his "traps for the unwary"! Despite this, I love this campaign...

Not only did I encounter the super-Mega paratroop squads, I had 4 Soviet Cargo Aircraft remaining on the board throughout the entire scenario. They would move 4 hexes every turn. They eventually, much later in the scenario, decide to conduct a paradrop in the town.

Luckily, I was able to win the scenario. What's up with these bugs??!?
