Hello, I'm a newbie at SPWAW, and looking for single-player campains for russians. Are there any beside "defender of the motherland" ?. BTW is "defender of the motherland" campain broken ? after third scenario bounding lines (lines of flags) in Deploy phase are strange sometime - they brake at the middle of the game field, so for lower/upper part of the field units could be deployed only on the edge. Is it intentionall ?

Welcome serg3d,

if you mean that the deployment line isn't a continous flag line from north to south, for example, then it usually is intentional.
The designer has wanted to specify a limited or a special shape deployment area. Thus the line 'breaks' while it actually moves east or west and then continues again south or north.

When you play a bit more you'll encounter many different deployment areas..sometimes they are so small you have to place several of your units into same hex.

I agree.
The Russian Steel campaign is very "fun" and "a must" for anyone wanting to play Russia.

It's actually not as hard as the forum led me to belive, but its no walkover, Ill tell you that.

The versions that are out on the web have to be loaded together. I think the order is 1.3 then 1.4 then 1.5 (and there may be a patch file to load as well). The person in charge of putting it together is supposed to be putting out a combined version with several more battles past 1.5's end.

1.3 is the first 10 or so battles and 1.4 and 1.5 add another 5 or 10 each. The campaign is supposed to work its way to the end of the war, but since it is a campaign by collective (similar to how the megas get designed) it only goes forward as new battles are submitted by designers.
thanks, John.

RS v1.5 contains all the files, so an incremental installation isn't really needed.

darroch (who is in charge of the project) was kind enough to email it to me, and I suggest that you either PM him to get it. If by some chance he doesn't answer, drop me a notice and I mail it to you. RS v1.5 is 1.5MB when zipped.

Mormegill, have they managed to fix the vanishing crews problem?

I tested some of the early battles when this campaign was new and some battles had this problem of being too big. There was no room for bailed out crews...kinda kills any interest for playing when your tank crews have no chance of survival if their tank takes a hit.

Well... no. I had this problem in the first two battles, but haven't seen it in the following five I have played. Could be because my losses have been much lighter than suggested by the information on the forum as a 25-50% loss of the core in each battle is expected. I must say that most of the destroyed german vehicles have surviving crewmen though, so maybe the 400 unit limit has been avoided.

Loosing the crewmen in tanks, ATG's and AA's in the first couple of battles isn't that hard though, as they really aren't that experienced yet anyway.
