what does 'detach and make independent' do?

I am really, really getting sick of ~30+ minute delays for NATO units to do the simplest things. NATO units have somediscretion so why do we assume every order comes down from above? I would expect my local units to make low level decision, like having my local units to press an attack when things look good. I put generous on the SOP hoping this would help. But then I wait forever for the damn panzer platoon to do the simplest advance.

Is there a way to get rid of or shorten the decision loop? Sometimes I just want to have some damn fun without watching my units sit there doing nothing forever when the tactical choice they would make in real life is obvious.

Any ideas anyone?

Is there some mod to adjust the decision loop?

No mods or way to change cycle times in SS. Delays for orders on Assault are long. We have addressed that in the new Cold War game, which is currently in beta. There is a need to plan for these delays, and it does take time to issue orders and disseminate information to units.

Thanks CapnDarwin. Such a great game but does suffer from lack of ability for units to operate with any independence since it assumes all orders, even small ones, come from on high.

In real life I'd give command "go down this road and destroy everything you can until someone stops you". But I can't give command to go all the way up the road at once, it won't work if I run into fights along the way, even relatively easy fights.
