This is a Narrative Replay of the Suez 01 Scenario. Prior to the 3.0/03 update, this scenario was called "Heading to the Front" which I AAR'd 7 years ago...lol

Oct 7th, 1973....Baluza
Ltc Tamir's 198th Tank Bn was the forward deployed unit Of Col Reshef's Bde in the Northern Sinai. The reports from the 4 Bar-Lev forts in his sector were dire. His mission was to reach the middle two (Lahtzanit and Drora) and determine the extentof the Egyptian attack. Were these just raids or??? There were some reports of enemy Commando's operating along the only road through the Swamps/Lagoon that separated the northern most fort (Orkal) from the rest.

(Unlike historically, where Tamir sent his tanks forward in groups of 2-3, in which most were ambushed and destroyed, I'll be going with his entire Bn along with his attached Mech Inf Co.)

As he approached Rumani, Tamir ordered his Inf to dismount and clear the town. Two Tank Co's swung to the south and began to advance on the Airfield when they came under fire....1 Plt pulled back. Nobody could tell where the fires came from...

Excellent recreation of that portion of the conflict. Not sure if it's available somewhere for download as single player or hotseat, but either way, much appreciated!

At this point, Tamir realized that the Egyptian's were
farther east than his Hq's realized. He needed to clear
Rumani and secure the road junction for the following
forces but he also needed to relieve the Bar-Lev forts.

He decided to leave his southern tank company, along
with the Infantry and it's inherent Mortars to clear and
secure Rumani while he took the remainder of his Bn
west... His lead Tank Co immediately came under fire from AT missiles and RPG's.

The Infantry cleared the town center and destroyed an RPG Tm in the northern outskirts but it was still taking fires from the west. The Egyptian's at the Airfield repulsed an assualt by Tamir's #2 Tank Co.

Tamir received reports from the Infantry in Rumani that
the town was clear. One Plt was in contact with an AT Tm
to the north. The Commando's south of the Airfield were
eliminated. Only those at the Airfield itself were left.
So far his only loses were 2 M113's. Just as that thought
crossed his mind, the tank to his left exploded in a bright
flash. He ordered his lead Co. to get off the road and
cross the railroad tracks. No one has the enemy AT Tm in
sight....

Tamir's mission went from relieving the Bar-Lev postions
to also securing the road that led to them. Yes, Hq's
warned of Commando's but not in these numbers. No
mention was made of AT Missile Tm's.
He left a Mech Plt, HMG Section and 4 M113's to defend
Rumani. There were still enemy forces at the Airfield. His
Bn Hq's Element, along with the 120mm Mortar displaced
and closed on the main body.

A Tk Plt from the lead Co (Gimmel) was now in sight of the
Baluza outskirts. The 3rd Co. (Bet) while hunting the AT
missile Tm, stumbled on an enemy Bn Hq's and overran
it. Hopefully some current intel will come from that.
Small arms fire rang out to his front....

Tamir was furious. His Hq's just passed on updated intel. The enemy has a new AT guided missile. Very portable, usually 2 man teams. "Tell them we know. We found out the hard way." He looked over his shoulder and could still see the smoke plumes from the three tanks destroyed along the road from Rumani.

As his lead Co started their advance towards Baluza, they immediately came under AT missile fire from the west and south. Another tank had been hit....

Realizing he has wasted too much time worrying about the enemy forces rather than getting his force to the
Forts, Tamir decides to take his chances and bypass any more enemy positions.

The Israeli Tanks charge down the road. taking both RPG and Sagger fires. Tamir orders everyone to push through the fire sack.

"Get to the damn Forts!"

198th Tk Bn (-) made it to the Forts but it was hollow victory. He had lost a third of his Bn and now his tanks were the only vehicles with a chance of evacuating the wounded back to Rumani.

The road was already stained with wrecks. A testamate to the enemy's prowness, and they still could bring fires along that road.

Excellent Scenario!!!
